| puppy shedding So, my yorkie has been losing hair since he was 4 months old. At first, it was a lot for a breed that isn't supposed to shed. I've taken him to the vet a couple different times and nothing out of the ordinary is found. He had a skin scraping which was negative. His skin is not red or irritated and he is not itchy. He is now 10 months old and although he isn't losing as much hair, I brush him everyday and get hair out. He has so much hair on his body, you can't even tell that he has lost so much. SO...I can't help but wonder if he is just losing his puppy coat? Has anyone had this happen? And, how long does it last? |

https://pets.thenest.com/yorkie-silk...coat-5753.html Yorkie Hair | Yorkshire Terrier Information Center https://www.playbarkrun.com/yorkie-c...grooming-cuts/ You may have what is known as a cotton coated Yorkie. Their hair tends to be thicker and shorter. Also, when brushing a Yorkie, a little hair is always likely to get caught in the brush. At 10 months of age, most of the puppy coat should have grown out by now. You may simply be dealing with a Yorkie that has a thicker coat. So long as there are no developing bald patches or skin irritation, this is normal.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | As long as skin appears normal, skin scraping is normal, is not itching or irritated AND bloodwork is normal....then I wouldn't be concerned at this time. If hairloss continues into adulthood - then I'd be checking thyroid for sure, though it'd be odd in one this young.

| Gidget is my second Yorkie and the only time I find any lose hair is a very small amount in the brush. I actually lose more hair when I brush my hair than she does. |

| I think your puppy is like my casie. I thought it was strange.. Because scottie wasn't like that at all. I think the shedding stopped maybe at around 1yr. It was so gradual I didn't really notice...

| Good to know! Thank you! I’ve been struggling with whether there might be a medical problem or if this is normal. He seems so fine otherwise. |
