| screaming in the car I need ideas or any kinda help with this. Joey screams in the car I mean like non stop and I have no idea how to stop it. It doesn't matter if I hold him or he is in the snoozer. It doesn't matter if his sisters are with him or not. He did it the whole hour and half to the pet expo over the weekend. I have no idea what to do. He doesn't seem anxious he almost seems over excited and I'm at a loss. He rides in the car a lot and has since he was a puppy. He starts agility Wednesday so I will talk to the trainer then and see if she has any ideas but I was hoping someone here might.

| You may want to check out his thread...lots of ideas and it's fun reading! Thread is entitled (I think): All of a Sudden Charlie is Going Nuts in Car [QUOTE=SWOwner;4608459]We take Charlie (9 month old Yorkie Going Nuts in Car) everywhere we go without a problem. We have a carrying case for him that has been just fine since we got him. We place the case on the floor - he would jump in it and off we would go. We would zipper it up when we get out of the car (he has a hole to stick his head out) of and screens all the way around - no problem. Now, he is fine (in his carrying case) until we pull out of the garage. All of a sudden he goes nuts just about jumping out of the carrying case. I tried holding him but can’t stop this behavior. It is though he sees a ghost! He barks, screams and scares us - we have tried to quiet him down without success. He gets so worked up that we are afraid he will nip us - his legs going 100 miles an hour, etc. If we can get him in the store - he quiets down completely - always loved going shopping with us. It all started recently when he would know we were going to stop the car to go into the store - he would go nuts until we got him into the store. Now – he just won’t stop the moment he gets in the car - we simply don’t know what to do and hoping that someone has gone through this. We take trips and this just isn’t going to work. |

| Have you tried putting him in the car and not going anywhere and just giving treats and talking or playing with him.

| I have heard some say their pup does better in a rather enclosed crate than an open car seat.

| The only issue with this is I’m not sure how I would do it since the girls are in the snoozer.

| The big issue is I take him to agility and stuff so I can't have him tired. I know its not anxiety its seriously like over excitement. He did it on the way to agility yesterday but was tired and didn't do it on the way back so I don't think it has anything to do with looking at cars or anything. I though about trying rescue remedy but I'm scared it will make him tired.

| So he's kind of overly excited and ramped-up to be going for a ride and then he's excited by what's gonna be happening upon arrival...?(it sounds like as when he's wore out he just wants to sleep). Could you maybe de-sensitize Joey with short drives with lots of stops at which time you take him out go for a 30 second stroll, and then repeat several times per session? I'm thinking he'd find this all very boring and meaningless (he's a smart little guy) and settle down cuz it's so ho-hum. Hopefully his disinterest would then carry over into the other fun trips...? |
