If only everyone did their research beforehand and knew of the 12-15+ years of commitment when it comes to owning a dog.

| Pet stores and lying breeders have been responsible for aiding the homeless and neglected pet population for many years. So many people want that tiny adorable dog that in reality is a very rare item. Many "teacup" puppies have horrible genetic abnormalities and weaknesses that the new owner finds out about later. The pups that are shipped usually arrive full of worms, mites, and other undesirables and many times die during the trip. Do not support people who claim to have "teacup" puppies of any breed. They always claim that they know everything but when your pocket sized puppy will no longer fit in all the things you bought for it they are not going to answer your phone call. A good breeder will never promise a particular size of adult dog. They will give you an estimate based on their other litters of the same breeding. There are thousands of disreputable breeders out there that know that they can charge hundreds and even thousands of dollars more for their puppy mill dogs if they tell people that it is a "teacup" puppy! I hope everyone that is informed about this issue will continue to warn others. These animal abusers need to be put out of business. Unfortunately there are some large long standing organizations that benefit from the dog breeding business and puppy mills are their largest source of income. These organizations always lobby against any legislation that is created to stop or at least regulate this abuse. |

| The actual wording is "must not exceed 7 pounds" (which is basically for show dogs imo) but that does not mean anything under 5 should be shown or bred. Yorkies can be any size at all. The main point is that there is NO such thing as a "teacup yorkie" and that term should not be used...nor should anyone encourage the intentional breeding of tiny yorkies even if one wants to consider them "standard" because the wording is as it is.
