| Saw the vet So I am still waiting for the genetic test kit to arrive. On Saturday it will be two weeks from the date they mailed it. Boy snail mail is slow I took Sophie to the vet on Monday and wow do I ever like the new vet I chose. She was the first vet who really seemed to understand the unique health needs of small pups like Yorkies. First time ever that I didn't have to argue about not wanting the lepto shot. In fact she said she doesn't recommend giving it to any dog under 10 pounds so in short she has my trust. We discussed my concerns about Sophie. She said that there is certainly a possibility that she is blue born and may develop colour dilution alopecia but that it's by no means a death sentence if confirmed. She said that the genes may never express themselves and that if they do the likely hood of serious health issues is slim. She in fact has three dogs in her clinic that have CDA and the major issue is related to skin. Sensitivity to sunlight is the biggest concern. She is very curious to see the results of the test. So the vet is fantastic, well educated regarding this health issue and I am confident that Sophie if confirmed will receive excellent care. I will let you all know when I finally get the test and the results |

| I got an update from Tina a couple of days ago. The test kit never arrived, so the company had to send another one. Still waiting.

YT 500 Club Member | Just caught up with these posts. Your baby's pictures are just adorable. I'm not educated on blue borns, but if she is, she's so very blessed to have you, and you blessed with her. I know, by having grown children and no grandchildren, how much you love her. It's such a heart filling love that lots of people don't understand. I pray you will have peace whatever the outcome will be. Stay strong and hopefully the test will be in your hands soon. Please post back. There are so many wonderful Yorkie lovers here and are understanding.

| Quick update. I finally got the testing kit in and will be doing the cheek swab on Sophie tomorrow morning. The test has to be done at least two hours after eating so first thing in the morning seems like a good time. I will be sending it back express registered mail. The timeline for completing the test is 3-5 days after it's received back. The results are available online so I am hoping to have the results by end of next week. Sophie has developed some tiny bumps on the back of her head that I will have looked at when she goes for her next vet visit on the 15th of this month. As I don't know if she is blue born I am going to try not to be too concerned about the skin bumps. I am aware that skin issues and infection in particular is a problem in blue borns but until I have the results I am pushing that concern away for now. Well wish me luck with the swabbing, I am thinking it will be more like her chewing the swab as I desperately attempt to rub it on the inside of her cheek lol. I will let everyone know as soon as the results are in. Fingers crossed |
