| Pooping in crate I have 3 Yorkies that are 12 weeks old. I have crates for them in the kitchen and they have investigated the crates, but we have not confined them to the crates yet. The problem I am having right now is that they will go into the crate and poop. Not all the time and not sure which one is pooping in the crates. Why are they doing this and what can I do to stop this behavior. |

| Hi There, 1. Is the crate too big? The crate should only be as big as to allow the puppy to stand up and turn around. 2. How often are you taking them out? Consistency is key. There are a few good articles on the site about crate training. Just do a search on the site.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Ummmm...animals/dogs don't come potty trained. These kiddos are just 12 weeks old - they wouldn't be anywhere *near* being potty trained at this age. So, I'm a little confused by your post - were you expecting them to be potty trained at this age and know they shouldn't poop inside certain things? What kind of plan / book / guide are you using for potty training? If you want to PM me your email - I do have a potty training guide I could email you in pdf form.

| No, I don’t expect them to be potty trained. We are actually doing ok with training. We are working on going on pee pads because it is easier when winter comes. We will work on pottying outside too, but right now they get so distracted outside. I have a penned area outside and they like to dig, eat the grass, and find rocks to chew on. So I am concentrating more on pee pad training. I have a penned area in my dining room with pee pads. I am glad that I am working with the pee pads because it has been raining quite a bit the last few days and they are peeing on the pads! I have also taken the blankets and things out of their crates and they have not pooped in there. I have also started giving them one meal in the crate and that may have helped. They don’t like going in their crates, so I am working on making it a fun experience. My other Yorkies liked the crate. In fact my little Sadie, who I lost at the end of last year, used to run into her crate when she did something bad. We used to say that she was punishing herself. We never punished her! Thanks for he help! |
