| Yorkie Prices Iam wondering if i'll ever find a 500.00 yorkie girl puppy. I'm not meaning to sound like the price is all im worried about cause its not. Its just that im a college student and thats about the highest price I can pay. I just wish I could make breeders realize what good home I would give one of they're babies. I mean I have seen little doggie clothes for cheap and have bought them just to be ready for when I do find the puppy. My BF thinks i crazy because I already have all this stuff for a puppy I dont even have yet lol. akc and size dont matter to me. Just the health and personality of the puppy. So do you guys think i'll ever find one for this price?? Ps: I know I posted this In breeder talk too. but not many people where on there. |

| You might be able to find one at that price but you might pay alot more in the long run with vet bills. It is tough to find a dog that a breeder has invested enough of her own money to run all the neccessary tests on the mom and dad and the puppies and sell it at that price. If you have a breeder just throwing two dogs together without the proper genetic testing your little one could have a lot of health problems down the road. Honestly, with a Yorkie many times the buying price of the dog might be the lowest price as up keep can be expensive in these little dogs. Besides having $$$ for buying the dog, you will need $$$ for Shots, exams, dentals and neutering and this is just the basics. If you read enough threads on here you will see that when these little ones get sick you have to rush them to emergency and that is not cheap. Just remember when you get a Yorkie they can be with you for the next 13-16 years.

| Guinness, my friend's yorkie on the pic was.. $300 I think.. five years ago. My friend got him from Trailer Park with no paper. He is really adorable and very good a pet quality dog. He hasn't gotten sick since she got him and very healthy. My friend was really lucky, I must say. Then I have seen cheaper dogs who ended up going to vet often... Then I personally wouldn't want to take risk by buying cheaper pup. If you are lucky.. you might find a nice one... You can also try to see if there are anyone who are selling older dogs or rescued dogs.. then it might be much cheaper.

| Buying a cheap yorkie is a big gamble. You may be lucky, but the odds are not in your favor. www.petfinder.com is a great link to rescue yorks needing a good home for far less $ than you pay for a pup. Best of luck in your search.

| BrittanyBuy -- I'm afraid that you're just hoping to find something that rightfully costs a certain amount of money for much less. I would suggest that you keep looking - you may be lucky and find a bargain -but in the meantime keep saving your money - so that eventually you can afford to get the little dog that you want so much. If you have $500 now - you're off to a good start. (I see nice little pet Yorkies in our area for $750 to $800). That isn't a lot more than you have now. Also - it would probably be better for you to get through college and be more settled before you take on caring for a pet. These little guys are lifelong commitments - so waiting, saving, and paying a little more shouldn't be an unreasonable thing to do. Good luck! Carol Jean |

| You can probably find a male for that price. I was ready to spend 800 on a pet quality male, but Stewie fell into my lap for a little under 500 during the second semester of my junior year of college . Are you dead set on a female? I don't think that price necessarily states that the dog is going to be healthier than a cheap one and I DEFINITELY do not think that college students shouldn't have Yorkies. Who needs a true best friend and cuddle buddy more than a college student?

| forgot to mention - I'm not an AKC snob or anything, but I think you're better off getting an AKC male for 500 than a nonAKC or no papered female for 500 - especially if you're determined to get a purebred Yorkie. Stay away from puppyfind and those other advertising sites. In my experience, all the advertise is heartbreak and deception.

| price I used to think the price was the biggest expense, but not any longer. Vet fees are through the ceiling..so $500 is just the start, you will need another $500 in vet fees the first 6 to 8 months. Best wishes |

| If you are really dedicated to getting a Yorkie, you will make it happen. I worked my a$$ off to spend more than $3000 on Yorkies and their expenses this year. Thinking about that number is REALLY gross, but they are worth it! And like I mentioned, I am a college student as well!

| I don't see anything wrong with a college student getting a yorkie, just as long as you look down the road before getting one. There are just some things that should be thought about ahead of time and first and foremost is that you'll be home instead of out while leaving the yorkie home alone too much. Just being sure that a career won't take you away from the yorkie more hours than is fair to the yorkie after you are out of college and that you'll always be able to take the yorkie wherever you plan to live in the future. This is definitely a legitimate consideration, because we have seen a yorkie or two on here in the past where the owner's who are recently out of college were unable to keep their yorkies because of their long work schedules and they weren't home as much as they should be and they felt the yorkies would be better off with someone who was home more. It is definitely worthwhile to think about, because it's better to think about ahead of time and not risk breaking the heart of a little yorkie. And, yes, they do grieve. It isn't fair to not take these things into consideration and look fifteen years into the future as much as you can.

| Brittany, Just keep checking the newspapers, You never know. I bought my Bell for $500 less then 3 yrs ago.. It is true you never know what you will get, but this is also true with more expensive dogs too! How many people on this very site have written, telling us they paid for a "teacup" and now their dog is 9 lbs!! Be patient and keep looking.

| Good luck in finding you a yorkie. With all the great info on YT it will help you find a healthy yorkie. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders and will make a great yorkie mom.
