| Are there tests to check a mutts gene? Hello, Ive been quite unsure of my dogs gene and while it doesnt matter much I kind of want to know regardless what my dogs breed is or mix. Is there any tests I can get for her? How much do they cost? |

| They make DNA tests but they really aren't that accurate. I have heard of some seriously funny results before. It's like $80.00 at least the one I saw.

| One of our members in the past has suggested Mars 2.0 DNA to be pretty accurate. I don't know how accurate it would be with a dog that may have many generations of mixed breeds in it, but should be a fun thing to do if you have a couple of extra bucks laying around :-)

| Wisdom Panel DNA also supposed to be fairly accurate.

| We used wisdom panel and it said Mario was Pomeranian, cocker spaniel, and mini schnauzer.....no yorkie at all. I tend to not believe that. He weighs 9 lbs so I have trouble with the cocker part.

She does look like the latter now to me. (atleast some of the examples I've seen of the russian toy terrier look like it). I kind of want her to be the former, because it says russian toys tend to have a lifespan of 11-12 years... This is what the long coat version of them looks like. https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/images/...a394b47dad.jpg The only difference between my dog and that dog is my dog has her ears droop down -- well droop to the side. (she has very weird dog ears to me yet cute). and the ears are much shorter than that(not the hair- though the ear hair is a bit shorter as well). She looks slightly more like this one in coat and ear terms https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/images/...ed50d8589f.jpg and if you notice the tufts of white fur on her hind legs (kind of look like streamers on a bicycle) She has the same tail length(on that last photo you see the tail tucked, but its almost as long as the leg-- thats how long her tail is) But it has me confused. In one sense i find the russian toy breed fascinating and beautiful on the other hand I would love my dog to live a longer life. I mean in the end nothing I can do about that as it's all genetics but one can dream. Also, if you know the genes you can better know what illness afflicts that specific breed the most (so you know where to be more cautious). | |

| Sorry I have no idea of what the cost would be, you can google them both, I'm sure you could find out the cost. The Russian toy is a cute lil dog, Maggie does have the same type of face.

| Here is the link to the best DNA test on the market. It was $60 when we had our Bella tested, but I see the price has gone up to $85. It includes a test for a genetic disease, though. Wisdom Panel® 4.0 | Wisdom Panel |
