Yorkie chewing problem! Help! I have a 8 month old yorkie and he is getting out of hand I don't know what to do anymore he is chewing up everything..whenever I come downstairs I see that he chews drywall, door molding and table legs and all I'm doing is re patching everything I need help fast! I tried the apple bitter spray and it doesn't work is there a home remedy I can use that's better? Any help will be greatly appreciated |
You need to keep him in an exercise pen when you can't watch him. You also need to make sure he has lots of things to chew on. When you catch him chewing something he should you say a firm no and then give him a chew toy and when he chews on that tell him he is good. |
You cannot give your pup free roam of your home. He has to be confined to a smaller area until he is 100% trained not to be destructive. As Lovetodream has suggested, an exercise pen is ideal with lots of chew toys for when you cannot supervise him. 8 months old is still a puppy and needs training. |
Fabian is six months old. When we brought him home at 3 months, he did exactly the same thing. In addition to baseboards and drywall, he destroyed the bottoms of a lot of our mid-century modern furniture collection. Bitter Apple only partially helpful. The things that worked best for us are: lots and lots of exercise, distracting him with toys, and bully sticks. He hardly ever chews now.... except for the bully sticks and his toys. |
