| Crate training I never really considerated crate training for Geoff but last night was very noisy outside. Lots of shouting and cars door slamming. He couldn't settle. My mum had a training crate for her dog so I borrowed it this morning. I put Geoff's bed and towel in it and he climbed in himself. I buried some treats in his bed and closed the door for a short time and didn't react at all. I was able to leave him for 2 minutes and he was sitting happily when I got home. Do you think he needs a safe space, maybe he was used to be in a crate for safety? |

| Yes, I think he might see it as a refuge. Sometimes he hides in the corner so maybe he is looking for somewhere to just escape. Also it would mean he could sleep in it if he wanted. He hasn't feel found his own space yet. |

| Yes! Our pup sleeps in a crate in our bedroom and then has a kitchen kennel made with pet fencing for other times. She isn't fond of being shut in her crate when we are gone. She does very well in her kitchen kennel when we are gone and we know she's safe. We can't yorkie-proof our home enough to just leave her out. Sometimes we leave music for dogs https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...music+for+dogs playing for her. It surprises me how well that music masks outside sounds with it's own rhythm and dynamics, even fireworks. |

| I never crate trained any of my dogs, but my cousin has from a pup, that is his go to quiet place, he'll take his toys, treats and chills out. That boy LOVES his crate. So if Geoff willing went into it and stayed, I would say that's seems to be his comfort zone if he was happy when you came home. One GIANT step for Mary and lil Geoff, yayyyy.

| Some dogs look at their crates as a cozy cave.

| My two love to go into their crates for some alone relax time. They find it very cozy and comfy.
