Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Puppies can survive Parvo Toby was diagnosed Wed. With Parvo. I thought for sure that he wouldn't make it because he was so small and sick. However, the vet said if his white blood cell count was good then he had better than a 50/50 chance. His counts were pretty good and I went ahead with the treatment. Today the vet said he will recover and I can take him home tomorrow! When I was looking I couldn't find many cases where the puppy survived so I wanted to share. I'm so happy! I'm also really lucky I took him in as soon as he showed signs of being sick. The first 48 hours are critical according to my vet . Many puppies are already too dehydrated and have become too weak by the time they are brought in. Better safe than sorry. If your puppy is lethargic and has diarrhea and vomiting... Please go to the vet ASAP. I also believe prayers help. Thank you to all that said one for Toby. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I was told that he won't get reinfectef and its kind of like once you've had Chicken pox you don't get it again but that he can still give it to others for another 7-10 days until he is completely recovered so to keep him quarantined until then. |

| Here is a good FAQ about parvo written by a vet: Parvovirus FAQ « Guernsey Veterinary Clinic Nothing is ever 100% certain, but he's giving you good advice. I'm glad Toby pulled through! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thank you for the info. I brought Toby home and he is doing well. He has good energy and is eating without any problems except that he wants to eat more than the doc says he should so he'll have to get over that. I'm so happy he's ok! |

| Younger dogs have a harder time and it can be uncertain but some do make it. Be extra careful with yorkies and any other breed that comes in the black and tan variety (rotties, dobermans, minpins, etc), they are especially susceptible to parvo!!!! Vaccinate and stay away from heavily dog-trafficked areas until they have most of their shots, even the vet! Hold them, don't put them on the floor or furniture. |
