| First time poster, can you help me with coat questions? Hi Yorkie Talk! My baby Walter is three months old and 3lbs I just have a question about his coat, he's got a little bit of matting around his booty on his back legs, do the puppy coats matt more easily? Is it too early to tell what his coat texture (silk/cotton) will be? I've attached a picture of little Walter, and answers would help me! Walter: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet |

| Welcome to YT, Walter is just adorable, and looks to have much attitude lol. Yes puppy hair tends to mat easy, daily brushing will eliminate that. Their hair is constantly growing and changing so it is hard to guesstimate what he will end up with. It will be a wait and see.

| Walter is adorable! As Matese/Joan wrote, puppy coat does tend to tangle and mat more readily than an adult coat. You can start with a brush, but make sure to follow with a comb to find the smaller tangles. The small tangles will lead to mats if not combed out.

In Bella's case, we knew for certain after her first grooming at 4 months of age that she would be a silky coat. Here is a thread about her first grooming, with before and after photos at the bottom of the first page of posts: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-grooming.html . The grooming removed the remainder of the puppy coat and exposed the silky adult coat. Silky coats can still mat, but not nearly as much. | |

| Puppy coats seriously mat a lot more then adult coats. You won't really know what kinda coat he has probably until he is closer to a year. Enjoy your cutie

| OMG, your little one looks like my little Brock. He just turned 3 months and weighs also 3 lbs. He's my first dog and I am wondering when I can take him for his first haircut. I can barely see his eyes. |
