| Hello I am Packers mom Hello everyone I'm happy to join conversations since this is my first post. I hope someone can help me with my 6month old,and 6lb Make Yorkie Packer. Yesterday he was stung by a wasp while eating it. I watch him every moment we are outdoors, however we have a nest of wasph in one of the roofdrains. We tried once to spray them at nights a few years back when I had 3 huskies and one lab. However it was a slow horrible death to these insects and the poisoned bugs were falling Down on my deck. I was afraid the dogs would get sick if they ate them and didn't want to torture these bugs to death, so there still around. My question and point is yesterday was a ruff one for Packer. During our morning walk something stung him on his front leg, which he was licking a lot. Then I pulled a tic from his belly by his private area. Last night he jumped off my husband's bed and seemed OK. About an hr later he got between my husband's foot and the door hit his foot. When I took him out this morning he wasn't running and jumping like a bunny as he usually does and ate about 3 dandelions which I tried pulling out of his bitefull little mouth, got most out. He didn't walk around as much as usual about 1/2-1 hour running and playing so we came inside. He didn't want food so by 11: am the cat walked by his food so when he sees that I tell him the cat is going to eat all his food it's a trick then he went over to his kibble and ate quickly about 10-20 pcs. He kept laying down to rest he then vomited all the kibble within one hr. After that he walked into his pen and fell asleep for four hours. I knew he was hurtybecause he was licking his front leg nonstop since he woke up at 9:30am so by 12:00 he was out with no water or food since last evening. I let him sleep for two hrs then tried waking him, wouldn't get up so I gave him about one tbls of honey and water. After one hr st 3pm he still wouldn't get up so I put aslmost a tsp if honey directly inhis mouth. He finally got up st 4pm and no matter what I tried to feed him he ran away from me. My husband went and got plane non fat yogurt. I fed him about 1-2 tbls, hoping he doesn't vomit again. With the honey he is. Shaving normally excited to see my husband and running around the house. I'm still watching him carefully to see if his stomach excepts the yogurt and waiting for himtk eat some kibbles. Is there anything else anyone can suggest I should read doing. I know he would love to go outside but I do live in a rural area with many insects and flowers just starting up and I don't want to take any chances just hoping he will feel better soon Any exes you care to share with the results would be very appreciated Thank you for your all your help and support any and all suggestions are welcomed please and thanks again. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome . ANYTIME you suspect an insect bite/sting - you absolutely want to give Benadryl ASAP - at 2mg/pound. In my doggie ER kit, I keep the pills cut-up into the right size AND I always have liquid Benadryl on hand in case I have to force giving it (if the mouth/throat were starting to swell!). Benadryl can literally save lives when it comes to histamine reactions from stings. So most def keep this on hand at all times - and give immediately even if unsure if it was a bite.

| Thank you for your support and response to all of you. I did end up giving him the Benadryl because he also had a tic and I needed to get it out. Since he is very uncooperative the Benadryl also makes him a bit drowsy so, I was able to take it out on his bare skin. Now since then he fully recovered woke up and ate all his kibble he was very hungry. Our next challenge is to take out the two tics he got yesterday/ both are located on his face around the cheek area and lots of hair. I'm at my wits end. He will not stay still for one second when I try parting his hair to get it out and starts biting me. I don't want to aggravate or excite him more than necessary but I know they are bothered him yesterday because he kept rubbing his face into the floor. I don't know what to do at this point. I tried the Vaseline after my unsuccessful attempts all day yesterday and today He's now ready for bed I'm just hoping tomorrow I can work it out of him. He goes to the vet Tuesday I also put advantixII on him last Thursday which claim the tic would die within 48 hrs so hopefully by tomorrow the tic might be dead. Thanks for listening I'll check back in the morning for any other suggestions Thank you and Goodnight PS he seems quite OK today very active and had a good appetite with only one one hour nap today. |
