| Why Yorkies Why yorkies? I want to hear why other like yorkies, how you found this incredible breed? My story? Well I was young. My parent had 2 dogs, a Silky (yorkie/Australian terrier mix) & a Shih Tzu. A guy who worked for a phone company found a little dog tied up in a parking lot while working. He took the dog home, but couldn't keep it. He had a german shepard & his sister had 4 cats. This yorkie loved to chase the cats. He told store owners if anyone was looking for a dog to contact him. We did, & I saw the dog who would be my best friend as soon as our eyes locked. I knew he was the dog! My dog! We spent a long time together. We were the bestest of friends. I had to train him big time. Eventually I was even able to walk him without a leash. He was loyal & obedient. Sadly he passed a few years ago. But the story doesn't end. I had adopted a maltese pup from a rescue called S.A.F.E. in Tuscon, Az. My yorkie raise him like he was his own. I called him the white yorkie. |

| Hello! I had large standard poodles for years, but needed a service/hearing dog. My vet, who has known me for years, suggested Yorkies. I needed something small that would travel well, and I liked the sassy disposition of the terriers. Cali was a show conformation dog with a calm disposition but quick to learn and rather bossy. Took the service dog school quickly and that was 7 years ago! Now she runs agility and my life! So, that is our story!

| I got a yorkie after my cocker spaniels died. They were small enough to travel with, okay with allergies and we were apartment dwellers so it seemed ideal. Troy came home as a puppy and lived 4 years until he fell ill. We got a second (Emma) because we had such a good experience with Troy.

| I wasn't even a dog person. I was a cat person and had cats my entire life. I can't remember a time when a cat wasn't part of my household. My neighbhor had gotten a yorkie and at first the little thing got on my nerves. Miss Jasmine always wanted to play fetch and she just wouldn't leave me alone every time I went over my neighbors house. Well my neighbor got a new position that require her to travel a lot more. By this time, Miss Jasmine had wiggled her way into my heart and I feel in love with the breed. My neighbor knew I was an animal lover and she only trusted me with her yorkie whenever she needed to travel. Needless to say, that yorkie turned my life upside down. She was so affectionate and loving and playful. When my neighbor moved, I missed Jasmine so much I went out a got my own yorkie......a rescued name Brandi. Brandi has since died and of course, I adopted another yorkie.....Miss Duchess, who is a more of a terror than a terrier The rest is history. |

| I like terriers in general because they age well and have a long life expectancy compared to other breeds. I also like the terrier disposition. We babysat our neighbor' family's female Yorkie years ago whenever they had to travel. The dog was amazing. Never needed a leash. She followed my dad around and wasn't bothered by us kids. My dad was the one who decided to give me a Yorkie. We got the first one and then went back and picked up his brother. First time in our lives that we have had 2 dogs.

| In 1998 I asked my parents if we could get a dog; we began looking in the local paper. We decided we wanted a smallish dog and found an ad for a yorkie/chihuahua mix. I knew nothing about yorkies at the time, but we ended up getting one of the puppies. And that was how my beautiful, wild Micky came in to our lives. He was destructive, a biter, a thief up until his dying day and I loved him dearly. It will be 7 years this Friday since he passed. We knew right away we needed another dog, and thanks to Micky knew it had to be a yorkie. That August we brought Sunny home and he fit in immediately. Yes, he's spoiled and yes, he knows he can use his cuteness to get away with things. But yorkies are feisty, smart, willful little dogs with huge personalities. We are so glad to have another. |

| Back in the early 80's shopping with my cousin she drags me into a pet shop, sees this wee lil bouncing ball of fur, asks the shop owner if she can hold the puppy. This shop had a little area where you can play with the puppies. After 5 minutes she wants to have the puppy put back in it's cage. I am all upset with her, tell her you can't put this puppy back in the cage, it thinks you're taking her. In a nut shell I bought that puppy, all unplanned. Over 6 years 2 more yorkies again unplanned were purchased, now I had a pack of 3. They are all now passed, but my love for the breed has remained. I now have yorkie #5 he is a rescue, surrendered at age 2.5 years old. I could never have any other breed but a yorkie.

| As a little girl (dating myself, here), saw the little Yorkie Mignon on the tv show Green Acres and knew that when I grew up, I was going to get a Yorkie. Shortly after getting married, adopted my first Yorkie and haven't been without one since! |

| I had Pugs and am still a proud "Pug Person" but when I moved across the country from my family & was settled enough to get a dog I knew I had to explore other breeds since I needed something smaller that would travel better than a Pug. My friend had two amazing Yorkies who travel everywhere with her as shes a musician. So, I decided on the breed out of practicality more than a true love for the breed... well, after about 5 seconds with my perfect little Monroe I was a true Yorkie person! I love the normal terrier qualities, how quickly they learn, their desire to please & that they ACTUALLY listen! haha. They're also so adaptable and can go with me everywhere. If I am comfortable in a situation, so they they. They always seem to be watching me to see how to "feel" or act (comfortable, confident, excited, playful, calm). I think my girls are a bit different than others, as they don't really bark and are generally pretty calm. I've never had a dog who feeds off my energy the way they do or is so easy going. I'll get a Pug again someday because there's nothing like a Pug face, snort etc... but Yorkies have truly stolen my heart as the breed I will describe as "the best". |

| Captainzing, Sorry 2 hear, must stink. Another reason divorce sucks. I suppose I should remember to make a prenup that says I get the dog. Maximo, The longer the life span the better for us, but I loved my yorkie for his personality most. Terriers are all so fun, but the yorkie has beautiful coloring as well. Side note: I am also a bit fan of pit bulls, & have recently seen yorkie pit crosses. They are adorable as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D161fsTendw |

| I always wanted an Afghan Hound but it would not work out for us especially when we have a parrot . Anyways my husband and I love the yorkie breed and love the terrier. I have allergies bad so this is the perfect breed for me. We live in our motorhome seven months a year so the breed is perfect for traveling. We also like the terrier bark our kid lets us know when something is outside. Susan |
