| Reverse sneezing, trachea problem?? What do you do? I am not sure what you call it but both of my Yorkies do it from time to time (Addi more than Romeo). It sounds like they are having trouble breathing. I can't really describe the sound but it is scarey! Do any of your babies do the same thing and what do you do for it? My vet called it "reverse sneezing" and said it was nothing to worry about (hah! I worry about everything!). But my Vet hasn't ever actually heard them do it, so I am not sure that is an accurate diagnosis.

| I don't think it is a tracchea problem. I think mine will make a sort of snorting sound sometimes. Like a choke, but usually when excited. Is that it?

| Maddie has done the, what I think is the reverse sneezing. Crazy thing is, it happens the day after she's had a heartworm pill. My vet says that wouldn't cause it, but it's the only time she does it. You're right...it is so scary. When Maddie does that, I put my fingers over her nostrils and that usually stops it. I guess it forces them to take a breath through their mouth or something. Anyway, that works for Maddie...give it a try! Another suggestion...have a video recorder handy so when they do it, you can record it and show it to your vet.

| I think it's called "honking". Muffie does it but I think she has some allergies.

| I call it honking Quote:
My Yorkie "Bosun" does it all the time when he get excited. Especially, when my kids come over to visit or one of the neighbors that he likes. (Of course, to him, anyone that comes to visit is to see him). My vet also reassures us that it is nothing to worry about, however, another Yorkie owner had told us they lost a Yorkie doing that and actually had a heart attack. Again, my vet said that could not had been true. Someone also told me to put something in front of his nose to force him to breath through his mouth. That works sometimes. Good luck. | |

| Edie does this VERY infrequently. I asked my vet if it could be collapsing trachea, but since it does not happen when she is excited or excercising, he said it was not CT. |

| Reverse Sneezing Buddy started doing it at about 3 months and it was very scary. Over time (he's now 9 months) it hardly ever happens any more. I just try and cuddle an settle him down and it goes away. |

| I have 4 Yorkies, Chelsie my 3 year old, has collapsed trachea. She had surgery this summer to have a stent placed in her trachea. The BIG difference in knowing it was her trachea was when she began to make the "honking" or "snorting" sound~ Also it just kept getting worse and more frequent. I had a vet tell me not to be concerned as well, but I knew that something was terribly wrong. I took her to the University Veterinary Hospital where they preformed a scope and confirmed her condition. Collapsed trachea is an absolutely heartbreaking condition, and unfortunately there is really no good options. Kara |

| My babies do it from time to time. Mostly when they are having a free for all and get hot and excited. It's sounds like a honk or they are trying to clear their throat. Vet says it was nothing to worry about. |

| Sophie does the same from time to time, although not frequently. It usually happens if she gets over-excited or has had a barking fit at something or other. We pat her gently on the back of her neck or massage under her neck, and it helps. |

| Olivia does this occasionally. I usually just try to keep her calm when she does it. My mom's beagle has done this for years. I remember the first time she did it- she scared the heck out of herself and me! It can't be anything too serious because Belle (the beagle) has done it for years and years and is alive and well. |
