| Do you hug your dog?? https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/p...175700616.html "A lot of dog professionals would agree that hugging a dog is nonideal," dog-cognition scientist Dr. Alexandra Horowitz told me in an interview earlier this year. "I've never seen a dog who — when you hug them — they stand up and wag their tail and they're so excited. They do something else. They deal with it, you know?"

| I don't care what the experts say, all of my dogs have loved being hugged. They hugged back, and they initiated hugs. Our 85 pound Airedale hugged my dad every time he returned from a business trip. She jumped up and down and would put her front paws around dad's neck. Max and Teddy love hugs. Teddy is more of a voluntary submitter, gets into position and buries his head in us. Max actively initiates hugs and will put his arms around my neck, rest his head on my shoulder. We hug many times a day.

| My now passed 4 girls LOVED hugs, they would jump on my lap, put their paws around my neck and we would hugggg. Cody is not into hugging, I have to assume prev. owner never gave him hugs, he is getting better at being swoop up and hugged, guess now I can say "he's dealing with it" lol. I don't care what the experts say, I will continue giving him hugs and smothering him with kisses.

| Emma will lay right on your chest and wait for all the love you're willing to give. She's not a fan of the baby hold but she will hug for all intents and purposes.

| All of mine do except for Bubbles. Samantha LOVES to give me hugs, so much that she almost smothers me trying to get closer.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Actually no I don't if a hug is two arms around your dogs torso. I teach my biggies to accept single arm hugs as part of either the vet exam or part of the conformation exam. For guard n protect breeds and probably others this is a very restrictive position and one of forced submission, the dog is not feeling free to move away from the contact. I instead do a lot of stroking - which is deliberate petting with a purpose. And yes that purpose can be and is to show love. But it helps me to feel their body condition and any lump n bumps, and also not to whirl their hair around into a tangled mess.... The other thing I don't encourage is kissing, although hubby does it all the time. I personally don't like dogs licking my face. Although I have two that are really willing to do it and one that thinks he is about to die if you were to ask him for a *kiss*.
