| Rabies shot question Went to town hall today to get the annual license for our 3 year old. I was told we can't get the license since her rabies vaccination is up in August, they can't issue license if the rabies expires before Oct 31. Any risk in getting her rabies shot 8 months early? Alternatively any risk in waiting until November? |

| Depends on your local jurisdiction, the risk of not having a current dog license. Keep your proof of rabies vaccination handy in case you have any kind of incident that would require it, i.e. biting a human or another dog, or any altercation. Personally, I would wait to vaccinate until fall and just keep the vaccination record readily available.

| I wouldn't vaccinate until it was time.

| Thanks. So far we're leaning to "forget" to license and get the shot in November |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would pass on the license, and get it to coincide w/ the rabies.

| If it is due in August do not wait until November one you will be breaking the law and two if you were giving the 3 year they will not give the 3 year if its past when they needed it therefore you will have to just get the one year shot. Yes they are the same thing but once it expires they have to start over.

I have long felt the whole vaccination thing needs to be re-evaluated with better scientific studies in mind. That said, there have been times I've said "yeah, ok, go ahead and re-vaccinate if that's what I need to be legal." After all, the law is the law, and government knows best, doesn't it?

| Is it your state or the Vets that enforce this. One of my Vet said they were testing the rabies shot to see if it will last 7 year and they know it will last 5. |

| In the US we have rabies shot laws in all 50 states. Most of them it's required every three years but in some states they have to do it yearly.
