Sad new puppy help!

ive recently got a yorkie puppy 2 months old the pervious owner said that it is a yorkie golden merle, now im new at this but i need help..when i was contacting her she said that all the paper work comes with the puppy and that it is current with up to date vaccines and dewormd so when i went to buy him all i got was a borchure that had his birth date and a vaccine sticker inside. no other info was on the paper work so are there any red flags about this?!

Im also having training trouble with him, me and my fiance have a 2 floor townhouse and we both work 3rd shift she only works 3 days out of the week and i work everyday except sundays, ive purchased a big playpen for him that has 2 blankets a bed, toys and a potty pad i want him to use the potty pad whle we are at work and i want him to be able to go outside when we get home, when we are home ill leave the playpen open so he can go in and out but ive noticed that everytime he has to pee or poo he will do it outside of the play pen on the carpet, i went to pet stores trying to get info and i bought a spray product that you spray on the pad to get them to know that thats where they have to go pee and it seems to work here and there.. am i doing anything wrong or should i be doing something differently? Also his poo has been wet and diarrhea like for a while..im feeding him royal canine yorkshire dry food i did not get wet food yet because i dont know what kind..ive noticed that hes really stubborn he cries alot and he wont stop biting! please any help i can get i will really appreciate it i just hope i can get him properly trained

Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your new pup!

The biggest red flag relative to the breeder is that she/he sold a Yorkie as a "golden merle." There is no such designation in the Yorkie breed standard set by the Yorkie Club of America and recognized by AKC.

Some unscrupulous breeders will use terms like "golden merle" as a marketing gimmick to charge higher prices or to cover for the pup not being full Yorkie.

Regarding vaccinations and health, get to a vet immediately for a wellness exam and set up a schedule for the remaining puppy vaccinations. Hold off on rabies until about 6 months. Read the vaccination threads in the library in this forum to choose which vaccinations you want for your pup.

For potty training, I would put another pad just outside the pen for when your pup is roaming free. Don't let him have run of the house though. Keep him in the same room as the pad while he is small and training. Puppies tend to not want to travel long distances or expend too much energy getting back to the pad. Their little bladders often won't enable them. Plus, they often don't want to leave the scene of action or their humans to go to the pad.

Although you are going to also work on pottying outdoors when you are home, I would also allow him to keep the pad at all times. My boys have the pad all of the time and we go outdoors as much as possible. Don't have the pad disappear while you are home. That will be confusing.

Biting: Pups under 12 weeks who leave their litters/moms tend to be more prone to biting. Usually the mom corrects them and teaches them not to play so rough. Teething is another factor for the first 6 months or so. Say "no bite" and take away your hands or whatever other targets he is going for. You can also yelp like a dog when he bites you.

Crying: is this mainly at night or when you have to leave him? He is very, very young. Puppies tend to do that and Yorkies especially want to be with their humans. Try giving him a tshirt that you have worn. They love clothes and things with your scent. I've always kept my boys in my bedroom with me at night and that relaxes them.

Best wishes!

Couple more things: reward and praise every time you see him use the piddle pad. My boys are 7 and 8 and we still give potty rewards. They would never miss a chance for a couple extra kibble.

Soft stool: another reason for the standard wellness vet exam. They will want a stool sample to rule out parasites. Are you giving him any treats that might be contributing to loose stools?

Awesome thank you for all the help...so should I still feed him the dry food I have for yorkies or change it up to something different..I will try the puppy pad outside of the play pen but I have 1 in the kitchen and I have a small rug next to it and he still goes on the rug instead of the potty pad

Maximo gave you excellent advice.

I wouldn't suggest changing his food for now. Maybe keep him on that same kibble for at least another few weeks. Once his poop has settled and is better looking, then you can consider very very slowly transitioning him to another brand, if you choose to. But first, take him to the vet to check and make sure he's healthy without parasites etc that could cause the loose stool.

As for they crying, look up 'Separation Training'. Like potty training, it'll be a slow process and you need to slowly work on it every day. I suggest to lighten up on treats if the stool is loose. I used freeze-dried meals as treats and I give teeny tiny pinches to make sure they don't get sick from too many treats. When you're leaving during the day, you can keep him preoccupied right before you leave with a treat dispensing toy, like one of these: https://www.amazon.ca/PetSafe-Busy-B...3570846&sr=1-8

I would remove the rug that's next to the pad, he may be getting confused with the rug and the pad, anything like a rug so close to his pad he may think it's a pad.

UPDATE: took him to the vet last week and found out he has a parasite..so he got a antibiotic..3 doses 1 per day after the 2nd dose his stools did change to normal but now I've noticed that his diaharrea has come back...should I get more antibiotics from the vet or do you think it's the food/treats?

The clothing idea worked for me when I got CoCo, I would leave her with my mother, (kind of like a dog baby sitter) when I went to work, and with socks that smell like me. Course now she always stays with my mother when my fiancé and I work.

When I got him I left him with my shirt in the play pen..it's just hard potty training him I'm trying to train him to use the potty pads ..I have 2 next to each other in the kitchen 1 in the play pen and 1 next to my living room rug where he likes to play...about 75% of the time he will pee on the pad in the kitchen and the play pen but he really prone to going on carpet of rugs, if I see him squatting down on the rug I would have to pick him up and run to put him on the pee pad.. is there anything I could do or use to try making him not go on the carpet or rug's?

Your best bet is to not let him access the carpeted area or remove the carpet temporarily until he learns to potty only on the potty pads.

Because he doesn't know any better right now, the rug is no different than the pad. If you block off access to the rug, he'll learn faster that he's only supposed to go on the pads.

Last, make sure every time you see him potty on the pads to do a huge celebratory "GOOD BOY!!!" or "Good boy, go pee pee!!!".

My two are now outdoor potty trained, but to this day, I still do a daily "Good Boy!!!" and "Good Girl!!!" like it's the first time they ever pottied outside, to reinforce that peeing and pooping outdoors is a good thing.

What kind of parasite? Some are more stubborn than others.

I would also consider the treats. Keep in mind that overfeeding can cause loose stools.

2nd visit to the vet and the first time I've taken him he weighed 3.2lbs and now he's at 4 Aldo you think I'm over feeding him? Or that's normal? Another thing is that I don't know but I think my Charlie is deaf or dose not hear well..I tried clapping, calling his name, whistling and nothing

He's still very young so he's probably just got selective hearing at this point. Try clapping your hands & see how/if he responds OR a squeaky toy and watch for ear movement not head movement. As soon as you get home & take him out of his playpen Do NOT set him down on the floor, take him outside & WHILE he's in the ACT of going pee/poop tell him Good Boy go pee/poop outside & give a treat then each time you pick him up out of his pen tell him lets go OUTSIDE & go potty. Also each time he goes on the pads tell him Good Boy go pee/poop on your pad & give him a treat. Are the pads your using scented ? if not you can buy the spray for them or buy the scented pads. He'll get it but you MUST be persistent & consistent. What parasite does he have ? is it Coccidia ? if yes then you MUST take him back when he finishes his meds IF he still has diarrhea. Sometimes Coccidia can be difficult to get rid of & can actually spread to the organs & brain so do not let days go by after he finishes one bottle if he still has diarrhea.
