| raw chicken good or bad? Boomer will finally eat raw chicken if I hand feed it to him. Does anyone know if that is safe? I know a lot of people do raw diets. He won't touch the rice or any veggies. He did have some of his old kibble (not a lot) yesterday.

| Raw Dog Food Diet: Benefits and Risks I found a few resources by a simple google search. I think that its pretty safe to give your dog raw chicken (careful with bones, etc) however given that a dogs digestive track can handle the bacteria often in raw food the expectation that it would cause the dog to get sick is different than it is for humans with salmonella for example. I think with a raw diet, you run the risk of not being nutritionally balanced so I think you should research more since your pupper doesn't care for rice and veggies.

| Im not sure about the chicken but Have you tried soaking his kibble in the juice from (water) canned tuna? I sometimes do that with things they don't want to eat and they usually love it and eat it right up. |

| I'm not a fan of raw especially with long haired breeds. Also chicken is very easy to make people sick so you must think about the others in your house that will be exposed to it.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Giving raw food / chicken is just fine, as long as you're just basically clean about it. It's really not a big deal. Mine have been on an all raw diet for, oh, 9 years now...? And not a single, solitary issue about anyone getting sick, ever.

Too bad we can't survey the actual canid/canine species itself - which has been around for 60 million years now...eating raw meat. Do what feels best for you and yours after gathering all the info you can .

Groups such as these often have motivations that aren't in the best interests of the population they are actually meant to serve....so always have your eyes open . Unfortunate, but true. For example, does the USDA protect the puppy mill dogs that it's supposed to.....um, no...no, not at all. Is the FDA really for us, or is it more geared towards Big Ag.....? Be careful of believing in / trusting organizations that have or want political power and/or have lobbyist functions. I hate being this cynical, but that's the world we live in right now, unforch.

Also as far as the bones go, RAW chicken or any other bones are fine as they are soft and/or rubbery it's only COOKED bones that you need to worry about as they are hard, brittle and splintery. The BARF diet is meant to duplicate their natural diet as is in the wild & wolves eat the WHOLE kill starting with the intestines & organs & the uncooked bone marrow is VERY Healthy for them. In fact if you don't wish to feed the BARF diet , you can break or cut up the raw bones & soak them in water in the fridge for a couple of days then boil them in that water & give your pups the water from the boiled bones that now contains the marrow. Definitely not as healthy as the RAW but still good for them & they Love it. | |

| Have you tried steaming any veggies for him ? Sometimes when they are not used to eating raw veggies OR meat, if you cook it enough to get the smell in the air they will eat it & then give them the raw. All of my pups go CRAZY when I'm steaming Broccoli for myself because they know they are getting some too & they LOVE it. |
