| Deposit I've been looking to get another yorkie and gave a deposit to a breeder a few weeks back. She said if I didn't find the right puppy she would rip up the deposit check. When I went to her home I didn't find the right puppy but she had a second litter on the way so I said she could hold the deposit check and I would come look at that second litter. She told me to text her this week to check in as they were supposed to have been born last week. I texted her today and she just responded "I don't want to talk about it." I'm a little concerned because I did give her a deposit that was about 1/3 the price of the puppy which is over $2000. As of last week it seemed like everything was fine because she emailed me to tell me the litter still hadn't been born yet. I don't want to bother her if something bad happened to the litter and/or the Mom. How long should I wait before asking about the next step without being insensitive? |

| I do not think I would buy anything from this breeder I would just ask for my money back. If she did not cash the check I would stop payment on the check. This does not sound like a good deal I would look for another breeder. A good breeder would never treat you like that. When I bought my baby I sent my breeder a check. She was the most honest caring breeder and it took about six months to get our puppy. My breeder told me I will give your deposit back anytime with no problems. We waited for that special puppy and it was worth it. Hope all goes well for you. Susan |

| Someone holding $2000. then saying "I don't want to talk about it"after a text like that, I would have cancelled that check. She is holding YOUR money, you need an answer, I would send another text or stop payment on that check.

| If a third of the puppies price is over $2000 then you are paying to much anyway so I would ask her to rip up the check and move on.

| Thanks guy. Sorry, I think I was unclear on the pricing. The deposit wasn't over 2000, the price of the puppy is over 2000 (its 2500). The deposit I gave her was 1/3 of that. I don't want to vilify her. She was very nice when I went and looked at her puppies and was offering to hand me back my deposit when I didn't find the right one. She said we can rip it up or she would just hold it until her next litter which was due this week. She hasn't cashed the check (I checked). I do feel like something bad happened to the litter from her response which is why I don't want to be so pushy and selfish and ask all these questions right away. I agree Maltese, I definitely want to send another text but I was just wondering how soon is too soon/insensitive? |

| She is a show breeder. I'm not planning to show but I'm more comfortable with the idea of buying from show breeders. It's around what I paid for my other two. |

| The price you paid is not out of line if you purchased from a show breeder in the northeast. I agree with you about purchasing from a reputable breeder. It sounds as if something may have happened to the litter or the mom, which is heartbreaking. I would give her a few days. I know it's very difficult to wait, but more than likely she will contact you when she is able to cope with it. She offered to give you your money back when you didn't find a puppy in the first litter, so more than likely she will live up to her word. I'm sorry you have to wait for your puppy

| I agree with Lisa that the price is normal for your region of the country. Hopefully there is no concern about your check being cashed.

| I agree with maxio and lisaly the price of the puppy from show quality breeder is about the going price in the N.E. I also know the difficulty of finding a reputable breeder and not wanting to let them go and start over looking for a trusted breeder. I understand your concern, something may have gone wrong with the litter, and that would be devastating, but this breeder could have given you some indication of that and not just brush you off with a rude answer. I also understand your concern of how long to wait before contacting her again. I can only say what I WOULD DO and that would be to wait one week after the text message response "I don't want to talk about it." I feel for a breeder that "may" have gone through losing a litter in the past, a week is enough time to digest losing a litter if in fact that is what happened. I would not wait until Jan. but that is just ME.

| I would cancel the check and let her know you did and let her know when she has a puppy for you , you will give her a new check. by canceling the check you will find out if she has cashed it already. |
