| Anyone use a pet water fountain? I have been using a buddy bowl for years, since I had 3 Shih Tzu/before & with my Yorkies. I like that it pushes their beard back & (with the Shih Tzu also their ears). Now I just have my Yorkies & was wondering if a small pet drinking water fountain would be a better option. It appears the water would be cleaner all the time since it is filtered. I happened across one for $20 at Bed, Bath & Beyond yesterday ($5 off with coupon). It was made with plastic but it is the smallest one I have seen, which I prefer, (others 40 ounces & up) at the pet stores, even when looking in the cat section. Many of the least expensive ones are made with plastic (FYI Riley doesn't like stainless). I am wondering if plastic is a good choice. Also, do these tend to splash water? The furkidz do use a food/water mat in the kitchen & my kitchen has wood floors & I am concerned about water splashing on my wood floors. Any experience with these water fountains?

| I used one for several years of Callie's life and used different ones and every one of them was a big pain to clean and it just ended up being easier and cleaner to just use a bowl.

| I had one of these but Mickey didn't like the hum of the motor in his water bowl. It was a pain to clean and I went back to a nice stainless bowl. Not worth the money as far as I am concerned.

| we had one... but sound of the pump bothered me. I now have one with the container upside down over the bowl that replenishes the water as they use it. I change water once a day because it does get dirty from their beards -- bleach a couple times a month.

| I started using a fountain at the suggestion of our vet, since we also have cats. She said it encourages them to drink more, which is good for cats since they are desert animals. But our dogs love it, too. The first one was plastic. I switched to the Stainless Steel because it is easier to sanitize. I have to replace the pump about twice a year. Our latest foster Yorkie seemed afraid of it at first, so I also put a smaller bowl a foot away for him to use. But now he uses the fountain. |

| Thank you everyone for your great replies. I never gave thought to the potential difficulty of cleaning one of these. I had thought about the noise factor. I don't think I would have a problem with Riley drinking from it as he tries to drink the water as I am pouring it from the Brita pitcher. He also tries to drink from the hose when I water my flowers outside. He is "all boy" in every sense of the word. Lol Now, my little princess, Lexi, may not be so keen on a water fountain. After all, the water may spray a drop on her beautiful hair. LOL
