YT Addict | Collars or harnesses Its been quite a while since i have been here. I remember seeing some type of safe collars for yorkies. I have a halter i guess you call it . It goes around his body with his legs out. BUT i notice the way it fits its really close on his throat. Also his little like arm pits if you will on his front legs look like are getting raw and scaly like its rubbing him. So i need something different. Please if you know what will help let me know. Thanks.. |

| A step-in harness would be ideal - if you like collars for tags, then use a collar with a quick release buckle -- aka a Kitty Klip. I do custom make them and I believe that there may be other members who make them as well. Mine are made out of Dupioni Silk which is incredibly strong and light weight as well as, gentle on delicate hair. If you are interested you can pm me for details. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Collars are safe on yorkies as long as they're fitted properly. For most dogs, you want to fit a good size finger or 2 btwn the collar and the neck - but that's WAY too big for a small yorkie. For a yorkie, you only want to be able to just fit your pinkie in that space. It's not recommended to use collars for walking or leashing - for that, use a harness. I like the Buddy Belt. Collars are for ID only.

| If you use a collar I would only use it for tags. I like the buddy belt harnesses they rock. My favorite place to buy them is W. Field's Dog Boutique: Designer Dog Clothes and Accessories its owner is a yt member who is sooooo nice.

| Chattiesmom silk harnesses are great! Ziva got one at a year old and it was adjustable enough to fit her when she was full grown. It was cool enough to wear thru our hot summers- never an underarm knot from it- nor was she ever able to back up out of it! The matching collar was great for her tags and never broke her fine puppy hair. |

| Sooo...I saw the silk harnesses here, I saw the Buddy Belts. And you know what? I SHOULD have just ordered them both. I ended up spending waaay too much trying to find one to fit Loki. He is only 2.5 lbs right now. I bought three, and one of them kind of works. Its still way too big. Granted, I have a sewing room, and I do plan on fixing it. I'm thinking I will probably order a black silk one. Or plaid? Its rather tricky finding super cute stuff for little boys!!! Once my sewing room is done being painted I'm going to remedy this |

| I personally love the Buddy Belt harness. I also have the choke free harnesses but I think the BB is my favorite! I don't use a collar at all on my girls.

| I have a collar on Emma for an accessory and for Identification. She wears her buddy belt harness for all the time for walks. Its easy to put on and its sturdy.
