| Just want a puppy... Why is it so hard to get information from a good breeder? I've tried contacting several breeders and most either never reply or don't have any available but the few that do have seemed shady to me. One seemed like she didn't like all my questions and when I asked her to take more pictures of the puppy I was interested in she made it seem like it was huge deal and she had no time to take pictures. The other seemed reputable, she's got a ton of 'likes' on facebook and good reviews and she had a video of a puppy she just posted 2 days ago. I was interested so I pmed her wanting to know the price and she deletes the video and doesn't respond to my message. I just want a puppy for my mom. But I only want to buy from a reputable breeder. Most of the puppies I've seen are pricey $2000 and up. I'm saving up to be able to afford at that price, I have enough for a deposit right now but can't seem to find someone willing to work with me as far as payments go. $2000 is a lot of money and I just don't have it right now but I'm getting there. Seems like once the puppy is ready to go most breeders want them gone asap and they are not willing to hold the puppy with a deposit for a short time until I have the rest of the money. /end rant |

YT 500 Club Member | It may take a while longer to find a breeder. I know what you mean. A breeder that won't take time with you AND not answer all your questions at the best of their knowledge, run away from them. In my opinion 2,000 is way too much unless the pups are show quality. Please keep searching and their are lots of YT members with lots of knowledge that will help you. Good luck. And what you are doing for your Mom is so very sweet.

| In my area the going rate for a pet Yorkie from a reputable breeder is $2000-$2500. Show breeders are usually always reputable. The bad breeders won't ask you any questions about yourself. In my experience reputable breeders won't take anything other than cash in the full amount. I would just keep trying to save so you know at least you're getting a healthy puppy. Good luck! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I agree with bamboo these days two grand is about what a pet quality pup goes for from a show breeder. Also to continue to save up, usually the balance owing must be paid in full prior pick up.

It's hard to be patient, but don't rush finding a reputable breeder. You'll be grateful for when you finally do. If/when you find a good one, it may be well worth your wait, even for a year, until their next litter.

| Thanks everyone for your comments. I do plan on continuing to save up, it just isn't going to work out with the breeder I had in mind. It's unfortunate as we fell in love with the picture of the 6 month old female she posted. I'm working overtime this week and by my next payday I will have $2000 but I want to save a little bit more and in the meantime I'll keep looking. Another question- has anyone heard of Blue diamond Yorkies? Opinions?AKC yorkies for sale |

| Rescue I was very fortunate finding my fur baby, took a chance and got a rescue when she was only 8 weeks old.... I love my girl who's now a year and 9 months now..... Take your time and it will be all worth it in the end.

Most will suggest, and I concur, to find the perfect breeder. Me personally, it was a requirement to meet the breeder in person and have a conversation with them, see the puppies from time to time until they were ready to be picked up at 12 weeks +, and see the mom/sire of the puppy. I just didn't feel comfortable purchasing my baby over the internet. So...I won't comment on the above breeder. And, more importantly, it's a super good idea that you're saving up for now. Try to save much more than the $2000 for the puppy. You'll need money for supplies (dog bed, crate/pen, toys, leash etc...) and you'll want a vet-fund or pet insurance fund in case your little one gets sick. You really don't want to be caught with a sick puppy and not being able to afford to give it medical help.

| Its best to put your eyes on the facilities and the dogs. Any decent breeder will be happy to let you in and see what's going on and go over the papers, etc. Also, for whatever reason, the bar for what constitutes as a "reputable breeder" is going up and up mainly because of the competition in selling these dogs. Yorkies are like the #1 breed in the country, they are in high demand and because they don't have many puppies and are easy on allergies, they are pricey, period. If you are not looking to breed or show, there are plenty healthy , well bred puppies around especially from smaller up and coming breeders and then of course the "oops" litters. All puppies need a good home. Just shop around, you seem like you are doing your due diligence already, I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. |

| I'm new here! picking up my sweet yorkie girl in a few weeks. We are using a breeder in Arkansas and she's been great. She has a couple boys and 1 female yorkies available I believe. I've been very happy with her! Answers all my questions and has been very patient with me as I've had lots of questions! LOL Check out her fb page here... https://www.facebook.com/StrawberryRiverWesties/ |
