| She should have all her shots and a life jacket. Of course you have got to be there all the time ! Little ones are just building their musculature. Be careful because if they love the water they will do anything they can to get in it even if there is no one to watch them.

| My two didn't swim until their following year after being born in May and July. They took to it right away and swim/boogie board all summer when it gets to hot for walks. Our pool is gated and is only available when I take them- 20 minutes is about max. It is exciting and exhausting for the little pups and they get chilled quickly. I would make sure to keep hold and let her paddle a little and take her out right away- unless you mean like a little baby wading pool? A few inches in the bathtub is always fun. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | My opinion is it is too cold right now. Unless your pool heater heats that water up. 3 or 4 months old is still very young. I swim my Yorkie all the time - you can see vids on here of him dock jumping and of swimming in the lake and or pool. I plan on taking the pups to the lake this wkend but - Razzle if I allow him in (he is a full adult) it would be maximum 5 minutes or so. Always start with the life jacket it allows their body to be in a better position for swimming and provides a measure of safety. Definitely show where the stairs are. And also I agree if your pup likes swimming watch out cause they will go to the water every single chance they get

| Take it slow, be very cautious and safe....once something is done that terrifies them of the water, you will be fighting a battle for the rest of that babys life! I had a "groomer" (supposed to be one of the best in the area) almost drown one of my babies by passing him all up under a faucet, water in nose, eyes, ears, mouth, he came home that day absolutely terrified of water and bathing and he NEVER got over that terror....he lived another 8 years and he was absolutely terrified of water from that day forward. Your baby is only 8 weeks old? There is no rush in getting this baby acclimated to a pool....certainly not before totally vaccinated....take your time, go slow and easy, because once you screw it up for the baby and baby is terrified of water, she will live with that fear.... |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Oh dear 8wks old? Wait and Wait. Put up a kiddie pool let it warm up (if you have any warm weather). Babies of any breed need to be slowly introduced to the water. I wade in with my pups on leash first just up to their ankles and see how they do. Then deeper when they seem confident. Never ever throw your dog into the water. That is truly counterproductive if you want a pup to enjoy the water. In the meantime you can play games with her. Find the toy - give treats that she has to find. Chase a ball. At this age no more than say 10 minutes of play at any given time. You can tire her out by playing games that engage her brain.

| Fauna was a swimmer when she was a year and a bit. Don't put your dog in a pool with chlorine because it will damage their skin. |

| Lol You must have heated pool ! I don't even want to get in mine yet... My Yorkie, when he gets hot running around the deck has had me put him in the water to swim around until he climbs out. Supervise her in the water. She will most likely take a little swim around and will probably want out. My little guy will swim to me if I'm floating around and I'll have to put him on the raft with me.. Grats on your lil girl

| I tried with my girl last year in a little pool (at one year old), but it's hard to say if she liked it or not as we only got to do it for one day. I even tried adding boiled water to the pool water to warm it up faster and it was still fairly cool. I know she doesn't like the cold and it's not great for her joints, so I got a new inflatable pool for this year and hope to have it set up somewhere that the water can be left out for more than a day or so, so it can warm up properly. It's got a seat so I can place her there when she needs a break or wants to chill out. I already know her back legs don't kick or move much when she's in the water, though her front legs will paddle vigorously. I had gotten her a life/swim jacket and though it does help her float some I still hold onto the straps to support her swimming. But yea whether she likes it or not, she needs the exercise and she has luxating patella issue, so this is more water therapy for her. I'm hoping to get her to like it at least enough to want to exercise. ^^; But yea I agree with the others, a bit after the shots at least. When wanting to use the pool immediately, add some boiled water when the pool is almost half filled, believe it or not, it takes a good bit for it to be too hot. But do add a bit at a time, mix and test temperature till it's just right.
