YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yuck Skunk in my backyard So last night after dinner we were all relaxing in the den when I saw a skunk in our backyard. Of course Razzle alerted, my Blackies were not only unfazed but unaware. Razzle did not know what this was as he goes crazy for squirrels and birds etc. I called hubby down to see and made sure he did not open up our patio door - instead he went out our front door and made sure that skunk had left. I know that country folk see them all the time but probably this was the second time I have seen a skunk in the city. I checked my tomato soup supplies and will re fill them up very soon. That is for in case of sprays by skunks. Razzle went out on lead for his business the rest of the night - and I used a big flashlight to scan our backyard before letting the Blackies out! Hubby thinks he was only passing through.

| I hate finding skunks around the house....I have seen only one this year, but it was in the middle of the day....not a good sign.....these are night scavengers and when they start showing up in broad daylight, you may be dealing with an animal that has rabies.....there was one in my driveway, by my car. He was just sitting there, and did not leave when we approached the car. Fortunately, we really were not on a schedule so we just came inside and waited for him to leave on his own....animal control would not come out and deal with it, and I personally am not equipped to deal with a possibly rabid skunk, so he eventually ambled off down the street. I do NOT like unresolved issues, and was not happy about the way I had to deal with this.....still dont know what else I should have done. |

| I don't know whether or not this 'recipe' works, but it's worth considering (read on-line). Let's hope that skunk was, in fact, just passing through...! a quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, a quarter-cup baking soda, and a teaspoon or two of liquid soap. We kept Buddy outside while applying the solution to her fur. The smell immediately dissipated |

| Skunks like to dig grubs from the lawn. Bella lets us know if one has even entered our area and then barks like mad. |

However, the odor will linger for months and is especially noticeable when they get even a little damp much less wet (as on a rainy day). Lemon Joy was the best dish detergent to use in the mix. After a couple of weeks I removed the baking soda part and later the peroxide and just bathed him with lemon joy for about the next 6 months. Good luck... | When I worked in a pharmacy we had customers come in and buy massingil feminine douche for pets that had been sprayed. They swore the tomato juice was worthless. I'm going to write the recipe down and pray I never have to use it!!!

| Well, the little buggers dig under the fence so I bought those long scalloped bricks & buried them all along the fence line so they tire out before they can dig under. I have a small section of yard that is chain-link & the skunks spray rite through it, for this I bought that long rippled plastic that is often used for home made green houses & drilled holes in it & used zip ties to attach it to the fence. Now when the skunks spray, they spray the plastic & NOT my dogs, works great & if you buy the clear it's not bad looking & not too noticeable. |

| Forgot to mention that the zip-ties do snap from a strong wind sometimes. You can also use bailing wire but I'm anal about keeping my fence line clean & free of weeds & foxtails so I use zip-ties so that I can remove them when I need to clean between the plastic & the fence. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Gosh darn it the skunk is back. Noticed this am something funny about 2 of my three dogs - don't know what exactly that caught my eye but it did. Dara was acting funny Razzle was barking Magic was unaware as he was poo'ing. I went out and there was the skunk by the back gate. Razzle with threatening bark Dara ran inside and I picked up Razz and called Magic in. Thank God nobody got sprayed although the skunk was all puffed up and ready to roll so to speak.
