| Nikki 12week on dogs outside Hi There! I have a darling almost 12 week girl. We were just told to not walk her outside around other dogs (potty) yet? We live in a dog friendly apartment & take her for walks for exercise & social & etc. She had her 2nd Parbo/deworm/etc. shots/etc on the 27th & not scheduled again til the 18th. She loves walks & our apt is small. Is she safe to play outside? Reading & getting mixed messages. New Mommy So Confused... Kim & lil Nikki Stardust I'd upload her picture but phone won't let me :-( |

| I've always heard that puppies should not be exposed until after they finish their puppy shots, the parvo and distemper. The rabies vaccination should be held until about 5 - 6 months of age. I know it is frustrating because she is 12 weeks old and already happy to be outdoors and social.

| thank you Maximo family We found a lil area on a hill w no doggies talked to vet & tho should wait she needs some exercise & not in crate all the time. So we watch her for a lil & carry her & maybe play on our lil balcony. Guessing as long as we keep my eye's on her & we walk on street Nikki will at least be protected but not so lonely. We keep coming home to be with her. Keep advice coming, WE NEED IT.. potty training & teething so much fun..hee he. She is so cute wish you could see her. Nap time for Nikki...We thank you Maximo's Parents. Sweet Doggie you have! |

| She can NOT miss what she has never seen! It is YOU missing taking her outside! DONT even think about it, especially living in an apartment rather than her own private back yard....she will be exposed to every dog disease all those other dogs has walked thru and walked around with on their feet....WAIT until your baby is fully and completely protected......THAT is something as a responsible new mommy/pet owner MUST do for your baby! Remember, you are the adult here and you are the one that must make decisions for the health and safety of your baby. Do not expose her to diseases she has not been protected from completely. |

| I think it's better to be safe then sorry. I didn't take either one outside a month AFTER they were done with puppy shots. I waited bit longer b/c I'm paranoid. |

| yorkieMom1 & Mangus-Yes! You are absolutely right. I asked friends that have backyards that I know are safe & will still keep her leashed. We reached out for people visits & sat on our balcony today. She does need exercise & I don't want to see her so lonely so we are gonna do our best here or indoors elsewhere -where she can burn her energy. She has lots..She is a very good baby & travels well in the car..just need to figure iut where she can play. We are plating at home for now. I have LOTS to learn! Next is potty training on her pads & so much more. I'd love to get her to use the potty pads on our balcony & leave outside for fun walks. This will give us both time to practice! Thank you all 3 for writing. I am upset that her vet knowing our situation as I described in detail...didn't say a wird. Our first vet said "sure she can eat tree stivks" ... even I know that is a no-no. Forgive my typos, my phone screen is small.screen...Keep your advice coming iur was. Lil Nikki want's to griw up happy & healthy & overwhelmed mom Kim wants to give her the best longest life :- |

| Absolutely no taking puppy out until she has had ALL her vaccines, which is usually 5 possibly 6 months old. And if the vet you are using did not tell you this, I would change vets. If your vets does not tell you NOT to take baby out until she is FULLY vaccinated what else would that vet NOT tell you. All my puppies were HIGH energy and I at that time lived in an apartment, they would zoom through the place, put on their brakes then zoom back. There are plenty of ways to burn off that energy in an apartment. Enjoy that baby, but PLEASE be careful and wait until she is fully vaccinated.

| Questions-Matese-& ANY OTHER GREAT ADVISORS ! First thank you for helping us. I did change to a more seasoned vet, we met her (we went in for the vet tech to show us nail trim & she wanted to meet cute Nikki) & we connected better & my/your concerns were addressed. We will officially see her on the 16th, shots/etc round 3. If you don't mind helping calm me, Nikki is a wild child zipping & chewing & pee pee misses as she has fun. We started her main room as the kitchen. It is blocked & she can have her kennel open all the time-until bed or when we leave. When she was being walked she got all her energy out. Now she needs exercise & wants run of the living room. She goes into (our name) "beast mode" & goes under the couches where we can't reach her nor see her under there with electrical wiring possible potty oppsies & out of our sight. She is watched 100% otherwise. When she has a potty mistake, then back in the kitchen she goes...We keep her potty pads in there & she is pretty good about using them. She is 11 weeks, how would you suggest I let her run about the living room..do I lighten up & just clean what stains I find later? Let her explore under watchful eye (I can lure her out from under couches (I hope) with a treat. Someone suggested keeping her leash on & even keeping it attached to me to keep her by my side...but she wants burn energy time..but I don't want her turning into a wild banshee. She did so well when we (mistakenly) walked. Also the teething is turning to biting & we have all the safe (rubber/hard) toys. Trying to teach her no on fabrics, & everything not to chew. I keep sticking her hard rings in her lil chewing face. I would so love to train her to use our balcony as her main potty eventually & outside later for fun. She isn't safe out there alone & with so much to see/hear, potty pads go untouched. Lastly, Oh boy what a long note..sorry but so overwhelmed ! I had someone say not to confuse her with potty pads out (patio, living room, etc) that she should keep learning that the kitchen is where potty happens & not yet try the patio & not have pads in living room for her mistakes (they seem more from excitement). Others say have the pads wherever she has previously marked. I'm ready to "sit & stay & train" but want to make it easier as we seem to have a long road ahead & want it to be a good path. Your thoughts are so GREATLY appreciated..Nikki is a sweet girl we hope to keep those qualities with her as we venture into better home training. Many Thanks (sorry for typos, only have small phone screen). |

| A lot of vets say no outdoors until 2 weeks after their final shoots. Remember their are other wild critter out their running in the hills that are not vaccinated !

Senior Yorkie Talker | Maximo a question for you? Hello again. I have a question may sound crazy but asking anyway. I have a line for my grand puppy when she comes , what if a puppy hasn't finished her shots and she is outside where another dog went potty and licks it just say, can she contract something ? I know kinda maybe a stupid question . Thanks very much. |
