| New Pup hardly ever urinates! Hi everyone! I hope someone can help me with this. I have a new (two weeks ago) Biewer named George. He is two and a half years old. He is shy, but making progress. I have had many Yorkies, but George has me stumped here. He is fixed. George hardly ever pees! He has marked in a few places, but I expected that since I also currently have another older male Yorkie named Cooper. When I take Cooper out to potty, he will go fairly quickly. George, on the other hand will frequently take forever, or not even pee. I keep a close eye on him and I don't think he is peeing in the house. It is now almost noon and the last time I saw him pee was last night about 8:00. I have taken him out three times today and no luck. He is healthy and always has a water bowl with fresh water. I am not sure what happened in his life before I got him, but his breeder did not mention any traumas. Could he be drinking his pee right from "the source"? Ewwwww... How long can a dog go w/o urinating? This has me totally amazed! |

| Being shy and new to your home, he is probably just doing a really good job hiding when he is peeing. You probably cannot tell outside when he is doing it. Teddy was that way. He was 8 months old when we brought him home. The trip was 6 hours and I couldn't believe that he had not peed. Then I noticed as we were standing over a puddle of water (rainy day), I could see the puddle fill with yellow. Teddy wasn't even squatting and he was looking up at me nervously. Teddy was accustomed to privacy, so he was very shy about doing his business with me so close by, let alone on a 4' leash.

He also didn't pee that often for about the first month. George is probably doing his business outside without you being able to always tell. It's amazing how they can disguise it.

George has not peed today and with the snow I think I would have seen it. Hopefully when the weather is better, he will be more open to peeing. I also noticed his poops are super dry so maybe he is not drinking much water. We will see. | |

They will hang their heads or cower, maybe even shake in reaction to a deeper voice or something out of the ordinary. Doesn't necessarily mean that they were mistreated or had a really bad experience. His reaction to your husband may just be the result of insufficient socialization. Be patient and positive with him. Things like having a daily routine, performing basic obedience tricks (sit, shake hands, down), and walks help build confidence. The hydration and peeing -- might want to check in with the vet if that continues.

| I would watch to be sure that there is proper water intake. I worry a lot more about what goes in than out.
