My Abby chewed her way out of the bottom of a play pen in a short time when she was just a puppy. I ordered a 36" high 8 panel Iris pet exercise pen (ex-pen) from Amazon and have been using it in many ways since then (5 years!) Right now I have the cable guy in and out and the two girls are each in a 4panel configuration. I also use two panels to block off the bedroom door when we have guests. I lent it to my friend down the street for her new puppy but missed it so much I had to ask for it back (she bought her own.)

I had gotten a pack-n-play thingie....with the mesh net sides....THAT was a mistake...they climbed up the netting, and when one go hung by its foot because toenail got hung up in the mesh netting, that was the end of them for me! I had thought that could be an issue, but sooooo many people were using them for their puppies and so I tried it too....and exactly what I thought would happen, did! I second the vote for the Iris x-pen....8 panel one is perfect and there is no fabric "walls" for them to get hung up in. If you have a ladder climbing baby, and I have had them too!! , they may climb up the sides of the x-pen, but I threw a sheet over the top of the pen, secured the sheet with these huge metal clamp clips we used to use at work....those clamps are fantastic, and I bought some large ones to clamp chip bags closed....but they also clamp on the top of the x-pen, holding the sheet securely over the top....if they dont see an open way out, 90% of the time, it never occurs to them to climp up!

I use chicken wire on the outside of the x-pen....that would stop them from going thru the bars.
