| Sooo Upset Beowulf just peed on our bed yesterday morning he pooped on the rug I'm the bathroom and lastnight AGAIN on the carpet. The day before he pooped in my room. He is hist getting out of control and I don't know what to do anymore. I wasn't going to get him neutered but after all these "accidents" I reconsidered and he now has an appointment for the 8th of March. I hope that this helps because he's driving me bonkers with this. He's going to be 10 months on the 14th on new years eve he jumped up on the couch and pissed on it. I used to let him roam the house while we were gone but after he pulled that on new years eve I've been locking him in his cage. Idk what to do with this guy I'm about to give him away (just kidding). If anyone has any tips please share. TYIA

| Neutering will help. It will lessen his desire to mark. Also if done early enough, will make a tremendous improvement on the urine smell. You are making the right decision getting him neutered. Unneutered dogs also have a higher risk of certain cancers, and are more prone to run away if they smell a female in heat, even miles away! As for the peeing, you need to have him on a schedule. Feed at the same time every day. Of course always have water down. Take up water a few hours before bedtime. Always take him out before bed. When you are gone, confine him to certain rooms of the house like bathroom or kitchen, or crate him. We crate Toto. He will get used to it. Toto is also not the best with potty training. He's not the type of dog that will tell you when he wants to go out. I just have to keep an eye on him all the time. Mostly he sleeps while I am on the computer. If I see he jumps down I will call to him, pick him up and take him outside. I keep a collar with a bell on it so I can hear when he moves around. Lastly, Beowulf is WAY too young to be 100% potty trained. Of course there are yorkies that have been trained by 5 months, but still not 100% NEVER having accidents. Just keep at it. Don't get lazy. Take him out every two hours or so.

Persistence, consistence, and undeterred determination.....that is what it takes to get these babies trained..... I always crate all my dogs when I leave the house....in case of fire, my windows are marked where the dogs crates are, so they can be rescued....they cant hide if they are crated....and they cant pee all over the house! Having breeders, they hike their legs....ALL my dogs wear belly bands with THICK pads in them....Poise ultimate absorbency, regular length, bladder leakage protection pads....these work fabulously, males usually go out side to really pee, several times a day....when the belly bands are on them, they are just "marking" around the house, and that is just a few little squirts that those pads can handle with absolutely NO problem!! Get this little man neutered ASAP, BEFORE he starts hiking his leg to mark...then he will squat to pee like a little girl for the rest of his life....he may try to copy another male dog he sees, but for the most part, he will squat to pee! | |

| Yeah SO much better is they squat to pee, esp if you want them to have long hair. Even now we keep Toto's body shaved and he still somehow gets pee on his knees when we go for walks. And his pee smell is pretty strong too.

| He also isn't the type to let me know when he has to go. I wish he was. The thing is that he went TWICE about 45 min before he peed on my bed maybe less than 45 min. So he was definitely marking. I'm planning to leave him in his cage for atleast 3 days I'll take him out for walks but that's it he's going straight in his cage right after.

| Agreed. At 10 months I also agree he's too young to be 100% potty trained. I got Scottie at 5 months and crated him until 10 months and decided he might be okay-potty trained. Let him out into a smaller area over night and he had an accident more than once. So back into the crate he went at night. Now, I can finally let him sleep in his crate with the door open at night and he sleeps through the night. But when I'm not home, he stays in the room where his crate is. My idea is better prevention than get mad at him when he has an accident. Free reign everywhere is too much potential for him to have an accident. He's 1 year 9 months now and I still contain him in a room while I'm away. He just sleeps all day anyway and he doesn't freak out in there. With the smaller space, he knows not to 'dirty' it. Oh and he also started lifting his leg and marking at 5.5 months and neutering at 6 months didn't make a difference (though I neutered him for other the other benefits listed by capt_noonie, not the leg lifting). He now marks everything in the streets but luckily with the crate training and very regular pee schedule, he has never marked anything indoors. I also have a regular feed schedule too, so that I know when to expect poop. Scottie is 5.5 lbs. He is now trained to potty outdoors 3 times a day. Once in the morning, a long walk after work, and once before bed. Because he marks, I make sure there's nothing left dripping after 10 markings lol I think the size of the pup makes a difference too, in addition to age. Some don't have very big bladders and can't hold it as long. Last, I read many times, our pups behaviours happen unknowingly based on what we let happen. They don't know what's "good" or "bad". It's up to us to shape it and prevent things we think are "bad" So don't be too hard on the little guy. Neutering probably won't solve the pottying indoors, you'll need to confine him in the crate over night. If he's marking during the day while you're at home, maybe tether him to you?

| Gizmo was really easy to potty train, but he still had accidents at 10 months. Like the ladies said above, neutering, consistency, and patience are going to be what it takes to get him on a good schedule. I would contain him to certain areas of the house while he's leaning the ropes. I also would recommend him have a belly band on. Gizmo uses a belly band when we're not at our house in case he gets the opportunity to lift his leg and I don't catch it. However, I wouldn't use the band as your potty training solution. In Gizmo's case he doesn't like the feeling of the wet band when he does this, which means I usually have a dry band when I take it off of him. Good luck, it'll get easier!

| I guess I lucked out in the Yorkie department (just like I did in the child department). My son was potty trained in less than a week. My Zeusy was completely potty trained and has never had an accident since between 5-6 months old. He uses potty pads, but will go outside if he needs to to. I had him neutered at 6 months old. I had a long discussion with the vet about it and was adamant I didn't want him hiking. The vet said do it as early as is safe, because once they start hiking, they usually don't stop even after neutering. I've since read on here that some people think neutering a boy is wrong, but everyone I talk to says it hasn't caused their babies any problems. My sweet boy squats like a girl, but he does it so manly!!! LOL. The only problem I have is that we placed in his pads in a good place to teach him and give him space to move while we were gone; however, that appears to be a bad place now (in the way). We absolutely cannot move them. He goes to where they should be and looks confused. Last edited by Zeus is Loved; 02-09-2016 at 01:35 PM. |

| Thank you all for your advice I greatly appreciate you all. He was doing sooo good for a few months and he just started having more accidents then usual. I'll just start training him to go outside every 2 hrs when I am home. I'll also buy him a belly band. Funny cause I joined Facebook just to get him a belly band and ended up becoming a part of the FB community again and never even got him one .

| Thank goodness every male dog I have that I had neutered at 6-8 months old, continue to squat like a little girl! My studs are a whole different ball game, and they of course, mark their territory....one male will pee on a post, then #2 male will re-mark over the first one, then #3 male will over mark the second one....and so on....then they will often times start over with #1 starting it all over again! |

YT 1000 Club Member | I got so lucky in the male dog department! I got Rowan fixed the day after he turned 6 months. He is 11 months old now and I have only seen him lift his leg twice. I don't encourage it for sure. He squats to pee and he does a great job. He is very well trained to go on a pee pad or outside and has very few accidents for the last couple months. I would just try to be consistent and keep up with the schedule. Mine are on a schedule and they keep it pretty good. If I am not home they will use the pads if I can't take them out or when I don't take them out because of the weather. It was frustrating for a while when they would go wherever and then they would have accidents. Just hang in there and he will get it eventually.
