| Oh goodness, that is just a tiny little baby! How precious!!!! Submissive dogs will approach or be approached and usually lay down or lower their heads. The dominating one will be more aggressive and stand over top, maybe even growl or snap until the other one is submissive. I am no pro, that is for sure. I would rather have a submissive dog any day. In my house Tiah and Mercedes are very submissive. Mavrick is dominating (but not aggressive)...just wants to take control of who gets what toy and wants to be the boss of all the dogs. Cowboy doesn't seem to follow under either category and is way more like a human baby. A dominating dog needs to be controlled so it doesn't get out of hand. I guess the more a dominating dog is challanged for the alpha position the more you will see the characteristics of domination. If you have two that won't back down it will be a problem every single day. |

| A submissive dog will push you as far as it can also. You have to be in control and be the boss regardless of dominating or submissive. The dog whisperer talks about these matters a lot. I would love to watch him but I only have basic cable. |

| Zoe the Dominatrix!!!! LOL!!!! OK... I have to say... she will be 8 weeks old on the 19th of January. She looks small.. but she is a little under 2 pounds. Isn't that the norm for Yorkies? This is what is happening... she's been part of our familly for 5 days now... and she will not stay put if I hold her on the back... she wiggles like a worm... she barks and growls... I am wondering if she's playing or will she be a handfull??? I have a large submissive dog... Maggy... Zoe is all over her!!! I love my dogs!!!! |

| Try turning her over on her back and spread your fingers wide and place them across her throat and her chest and hold her there till she stops wiggling. That's letting her know that you're the alpha dog. I did that to Missy at the breeders even before I decided to take her!*! I wasn't going to take home an aggressive puppy! lol Another way is for you to go in and out of doorways first.

| Whether submissive or dominating, you have to assert head of the household either way. It doesn't matter how stubborn your baby is. You are boss, period. It makes for a much healthier and happier relationship between you and your furbaby. A lot of how much of a tough time training you have depends on how stubborn your baby is. lol I had a lot of hard times with Bouncer as he is very thickheaded!

| It doesn't mean she is aggressive because she won't let you hold her on her back. It means that the breeder probably didn't do it. It is something that will probably come with trust. I wouldn't force her to do it right now. She is going through so many changes. Just take your time with that one and slowly start doing it by just having her tipped back a little near your armpit and work your way to having her feel comfortable laying on her back. Rub her belly and talk nice and sweet and calm to her while doing this if it is a goal of yours. Please don't be forceful with her right now. You will regret it later when she doesn't trust your hands or you. When she gets a little older and you have built a trusting, loving relationship then it is fine to do that with your hand and even recommended. As far as your big dog goes, your little one doesn't see any difference in their size whatsoever |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I have one of each...Magic is very dominant and Sailor is our submissive one!! Either way you need to make sure that they know you are the boss of them and you control what goes on. We have to really work with Magic to keep her under control as she likes to have the power....once you establish that you are the alpha, your little one will follow suit!!

| I always work with my pups when they are very small and all of them will allow you to lay them on their backs when they go to their forever homes. Some people don't have the time to do this I guess. I start by holding them and kissing on them while on their backs and they LOVE IT I can hold my 5 month old on his back in my two hands out away from my body and he is fine because he trusts me. Sorry if this is too much info |

| My dog is definitely both. He is about 5 1/2 pounds and even at 4 pounds totally dominated my 21-pound Bichon. Never gave him a moment's peace. But around a new dog he has just met -- he lies on his back and licks their face. After he gets to know the other dog better, he becomes totally different and runs to them and jumps all over them. (I think his first attitude is just "testing." He is making sure other dogs are friendly before he goes bonkers! For the most part, he is submissive with me - but not always. He is submissive with visitors for a minute or two. He crouches down (with his tail going 100 miles a minute, and his ears back (like a little bunny) and licks and paws their pants - wanting to be picked up. But after a few minutes, he's all over the place with no concern at all. Carol Jean |

| My two dogs make me laugh. I think Duffy, my Westie, would be an aggressive personality. He is hyper and very stubborn but he isn't aggressive in a mean way. Jasmine is about 1/4 his size but is very bossy to him but a sweetie pie to everyone else. She is very sweet and quiet when she isn't around him. When I take my two to the vet or to the groomers I see so many dogs that are afraid and cowering or growling. My two are just so happy and excited to see everyone - human and animal. They love everyone. They are too exhuberant sometimes, but they are so happy and friendly, they make me happy. |
