| Brought our first little one home today! Nervous new Yorkie baby Dad... My wifes dog of 9 years passed away early December so I got her a Yorkie for Christmas! We just got her from the breeder today and got her home. She is one SPOILED little dog already! She was born 12/7. I brought her home after work and she played her little heart out. I think its the first time she has actually been allowed to play and run around out of her cage. "Tinkerbell" is one feisty playful ball of energy! I picked her up about an hour and a half ago and she slam passed out and is currently in her crate snoozing. She has her down bed, toys, food, water bottle, a pee pad along with a heating pad set on the lowest setting underneath a towel and her pee pad like our breeder suggested. I am paranoid as heck right now checking on her every 2 minutes. Should I wake her up before we goes to bed, play with her a bit, make sure she eats, give her some nutrical and tuck her back in or let her sleep? I'm a jittery, nervous new Yorkie Dad..... |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How did the first night go then? And yes, nothing wrong w/ giving some prophylactic Nutrical for a while...I gave it to mine when they were pups before bedtime and right when they woke up, for about the first 3 weeks.

| What a cutie! If she was born 12/7 she is kind of young to be away from mom. Make sure she is eating and drinking. Read up on the symptoms of hypoglycemia because these little guys play hard and "crash". If those beads in the picture are in her crate be careful they can be chewed and swallowed. I also find it helpful to get down on the floor and crawl around looking for safety issues such as wires. Make an appointment with the vet asap to get her checked out-health wise.It is also important to keep her in the house and not expose her to the outside and other animals until she has all her shots. Sounds like you have it covered.

YT 1000 Club Member | She sounds way too young to be away from her mom. Those pics look like the breeder pics in order to sell a "cute" puppy. Although I am wondering if breeder is too nice of a term for where the puppy probably came from. I can not imagine letting a new puppy go home this early. She is only 6 weeks old. That is just too young and I hope it works out okay. I would not take her outdoors at all. I would get an appointment at the vet but they probably won't start vaccinations this early as I think they have to be 8 weeks old to start them. Pee pad train her as she shouldn't be going outside for quite some time (when all vaccinations are done). You have a lot to teach one that young. It will be your responsibility to teach her about biting and playing and what is too rough. If she bites hard yip like a puppy so she knows she hurt you or say OUCH in a high pitched voice so she knows. My puppies are 10 months old and they know how to chew on my hands and not hurt me. They know how rough is too rough to play with me. Partly because their mom taught them that before I brought them home and partly I taught them by letting them know they hurt me. My boy puppy left an indent on my finger one day, but I yipped and he never did it again. He will chew on my hand for 5 minutes and not leave a mark on my skin now, it is just all fun for him to do that. Good luck and I hope everything goes well!

| I admire that you're concerned and wanting to do right and that you're really being there for that little shiny bright Tinkerbell. Great advise here so don't hesitate to ask for help. In addition, follow your instincts and remember, with these sweet little babies you absolutely cannot be too careful--they're very vulnerable--all over the place! You sound like a nifty husband and great "new" daddy! |

| She was up every two hours last night wanting attention,to play, to eat and go potty. She's actually using her pad! My wife and I are praising her heavily for it even this young. I gave her a drop of Nutrical last night before bed and again this morning when I woke up to goto work. She is a little piglet with her food! Our breeder said to use a water bottle in her crate, but she wants nothing to do with it and is already preferring a water bowl. She got her first round of shot's day before yesterday and we were told to not let her step foot outside the front door until she has ALL of her shots at 15 weeks. I already have her scheduled for a "well baby" checkup next Tuesday with our family vet. I'm normally the big tough guy who likes to go shooting, etc, but this lil girl has already stolen my heart! How long do you folks think it will be until she sleeps thru the night in her crate? |

| Our breeder is my daughter's boyfriends mother. I was a lil leery with a 6 week pup, but with her being so close and a phone call away, I think I have this handled. Just nervous and very paranoid about her!! |

YT 1000 Club Member | My puppies slept through most nights when we brought them home at 10 weeks old, but some do not sleep through the night at all and need to potty. My girl puppy will sometimes pee at 8pm (taken out at 10 but does nothing) and then won't wake up until 9am to want to go out. My male puppy will go at 10pm and he will wake up about 7:30-9am and he will use the pad in my bedroom if he needs to, although he more often needs to poop in the morning and will hold the pee most morning until I get up about 9am. All puppies are different though. I know some that have 3 year old Yorkies that can not sleep through the night without a potty break. My almost 10 year old Yorkie will go out at 10pm and he does not like to be disturbed before 9am, so if I get up at 7 I leave him in bed and then go back and get him up at 9 and he just sleeps until I come back and wake him. He is loving the electric blanket I leave on for him right now! She sounds so sweet.

| She def isn't sleeping in bed with us till potty trained. That and I'm kinda scared because our bed is so high and she is SO little. The jump would hurt her badly more than likely. How do other folks deal with this problem?? |

| If you decide to let her sleep in bed with you alot of people get doggy stairs so they don't have to jump, my bed is just really close to the ground so I'm not sure what other solutions there are but I'm sure someone else will reply soon! And definitely understand on the potty trained part!

| Welcome from a fellow Mississippian! What a cute baby. My husband made our Zeusy ramps for the bed and couch. He is very afraid of stairs of any kind. We have had to take them away from him due to Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease and the subsequent surgery. I'm hoping he can get them back soon. |
