Adding a second fur baby Hi there, I am a newbie to yorkie talk I have a six year old female yorkie and have decided to get another. (yay) I was wondering if any of you had some advice for me? I hope it's good for her and it doesn't change her personality at all i am a bit concerned about that. Her personality is very sweet, loves people, loves to play, very cuddly and totally attached to me more then anyone in the house lol please give me any advice possible Thank you so much

Hi and welcome We are doing the same thing but I am one step ahead of you we have picked our new baby and she comes to us in Feb. I was told that a boy would fit better with a female but I like girls best so we have a girl coming. She can use all Bellas hand me downs lol Bella is a bit spoiled but in a good way we make her mind but she has more toys then she needs and more clothes then most kids. We are retired with no grand kids so Bella is our baby and we felt we had room for one more. Let us know what you decide and good luck

Adding a second furbaby We are in the same situation. We have a little girl Yorkie (Lacie) who is two years old. Sweetest thing ever. She is an inside dog, potty trained on pee pads, as she only weighs 3 pounds, therefore, she has not been socialized with other dogs. She is great with people though. We don't take her outside much because there are coyotes and hawks in the area. We are bringing home a baby boy Yorkie in 2 weeks. Any advice on how to slowly introduce Lacie to her new little brother would be appreciated.

I would just put them together on the floor and let them establish their relationship on their own. Supervise closely and intervene only if you think it looks dangerous. Directing them toward play or performing obedience tricks together (sit, stay, and so on) helps establish a bond. Puppies learn tricks fast. Give your older one a place to escape the puppy if she wants. My oldest, Max, was able to jump onto the couch away from his pesky little brother. Greet your oldest first and do everything for her first to reassure her that her position with you is the same. We had a few jealousy issues in the beginning, but they were worked out easily. One was placement of eating bowls -- I had to separate them by a couple of feet and supervise to make sure the younger didn't push the older one away from his bowl. Congratulations on the new addition! Enjoy!
