Love I am a little confused about something

As I had told you Spicey jumped off my bed about 2 weeks ago, and immediately started holding her leg up so off to the vet we go. The vet said she had LP in her knee and would need surgery . Since I live in a rural area I will have to take her to the city to have it done. No big deal . The vet said it would run 1500 - 2000 and if I waited til she was older it would be more.
Well Spice walks ,runs and jumps just fine. She hasnt favored her leg at all since that day. I dont understand . Is this something that comes and goes???
She has always appeared bow legged and it is so cute. But now I wonder.
My vet is one I have taken all my animals to for the last 20 years and she is a very caring wonderful lady. I just dont know if she has alot of experience with yorkies. They are a very special breed I have learned LOLOLOL

It slides in and out of the socket, so one minute she is fine, the next minute she can be running and it will pop out of joint and she will limp....then it will slide back into place. I would not have surgery on this until it was rated #4....where it stays out and she is hopping around almost all the time. Time to repair it then.... Jumping from furniture or beds or platforms or decks, are usually the instigators of this....that is why breeders always stress do NOT allow your puppy to jump from heights....those little joints just can not take the pounds per square inch that is concentrated on those tiny joints....and if there is an issue of a shallow joint, it is not going to be good for that baby! But people always let their babies fly off the couch or bed, or any height they may be on....this is so detrimental to those tiny joints......

I just emailed this thread to my bf hopefully he agrees on getting our baby some steps, He just started jumping on and off the couch and jumps off our beds all the time and he thinks it's cute, but I kept telling him it's not good for his joints and he keeps saying I'm so over protective. No, I did my research on the breed before we got him and my step sons little sister who is 3 always picks him up and just moves around so quickly and I watch her like a hawk with him and he sais I'm being over protective cause I keep telling her to put him down or sit down with him. It's so frustrating when you do your homework and everyone acts like he's a regular dog. He's not he's fragile puppy and not a stuffed animal for 3 y.o. I get so upset.

Just wondering now, I put pillows all around the couch and have him trained to jump on them but is this still going to be to hard on the joints?

IMO, 3 year olds should be seated and supervised to hold a dog of ANY size for the safety of the child and the dog. It is about accepting the limitations of a 3 year old coupled with the delicacy, and unpredictable nature of a dog.

Would he allow the 3 year old to carry a 6 pound cooked turkey on fine china walking about the house all by herself? How about a gallon of milk? A pitcher full of red kool aid? I am sure you can think of something he values that he would not allow her to carry around alone to bring home your point.

A mess is easier and faster to clean up than a bone (the child's or the dog's) is to fix. A dog is more unpredictable than any of the inanimate objects I mentioned and could easily easily cause the child to loose balance and fall or drop the dog.

Good luck!!

I've announced several times now after I caught BIL feeding people food/table scraps to Uni (or any other dog we have in our care), that if they get hurt or sick, whoever is the cause is paying for the vet bill. Say it, and mean it! You are not being overprotective and with how much yorkies cost to get and take care of, why the hell is he giving you grief over taking care of your dog well? The 3 year old should not be getting one on one time with the dog period! She needs to be sitting down with and adult by her side ad petting the dog with ONE hand and NO picking up under any circumstances. Three years old is far too young to understand. Even with bf's nephews who are 7 and 11, their focus comes and goes and they get so distracted. One moment they are playing fetch, the next they are running and jumping off the couch. You just never know.

Pillows will help absorb some of the shock but stairs are better.

What grade did the vet diagnose? Uni has grade 2/3 and she has only hiked once and she is now 8 years old. I feel her knees pop in and out daily. I would not advise surgery until the dog goes lame, and even then, get a second and third opinion.

that price seems about right though, for each knee, and usually the surgeon will do one knee at a time and the recovery/healing time is about 8 weeks each. It's tough.

Default dog

I have the little covered stairs and my old spud uses them. Yes restrict jumping. Spud had trouble with his legs and the vet has him on dasuquin which is for the joints. Works great.
