| Well, he just started another dang thing - he is scratching walls! Have no idea where that came from. At first I thought something was in the wall BUT he scratched three separate walls in different rooms for some reason. I searched the forum and others have noticed the same thing - some contribute it to teething, etc. Will this ever end!

NOTE from an old yorkie mom: First take him to the vet = may have inner ear problem, Prince Charming did this every time his ears bothered him. Second YOU should only give treats once in a while for going to do his business. DON'T give it the same time every day. It is a treat NOT his food. Third STOP letting him be the boss like that will ever be possible! Fourth GIVE UP and let him rule your hearts. Seriously, if you are putting him in the crate on the floor, he just might be yelling because he is in pain. The floor of cars become very hot. He might be getting burned down there. The only way to tell you something is wrong is to talk to you by barking. The more you ignore that first few moments the worse he is burned and the more he will scream setting a pattern of every time I get in the car I MUST scream. My service dog had to have a 4-inch pillow between the seats because of the heat from the car burning her. We drove 2 hours when she became restless - something she never did in the car. This time we had driven a straight 2 hours and she had a few blisters on her chest from the heat off the floor. This was even with the car carpet and a soft blanket. Since she was not allowed to ride on the seats, we went to a fabric store and bought three 4-inch foam squares and covered them with two blankets to keep her off the hot floor. We had a cooling pad between the foam and the blankets. I recommend strapping the crate on the seat in the back so it cannot fly forward with a quick stop. Then placing him in the crate without going anywhere. After he stops screaming give him a treat. Every time he stops for about a week; then every other time he stops; then every 3rd time and so on until he only gets a treat one time in the car. Eventually you need to work it to where he gets his treat only when he arrives home and has not screamed at all in the car. He will catch on very quickly BUT you must be consistent with him. ONE slip-up by you and he will know that it can be reversed and you will need to start all over. = I am a professional trainer of service dogs and we do train Yorkies as service dogs as well as Labs, German Shepherds and Border Collies (others as needed) |
