| pet stores Hello so i wanted to bring up something that has been bothering me for a while now. I see all of the time people want to buy their pups from a reputable breeder which i understand; and everyone is against puppy mills as am i. But why not buy a pup from a store that you know is a puppy mill?? So they may be a little sick and you mite have to do a little extra vet care in the begining but come on; if you dont rescue a puppy from that situation they are just going to be stuck in a cage for the rest of its life, or until somebody rescues it. The puppy mill thing is never going to stop. As much as i hate that its not. So why not rescue these poor babies in horrible situations? I believe adopting from the shelter is not the only way to rescue an animal. Sorry if this upsets people. I just really wanted to know other peoples views on this. |

| Idk it's just giving those mills the money back to keep doing it so we just have to pray for these little babes and pass them up at least that's how I see it

| My take on it is this: If pet stores won't quit buying from puppy mills, then it's up to us, the people, as it were, not to buy from pet stores. If there is no demand, there is no reason to supply. In other words, with puppy mills it's only & all about the money and if they ain't making money, pray God, they'll stop making puppies. |

| If you buy a dog from a pet store not only are you supporting millers and brokers, you are also taking away a good home from a dog in rescue or a shelter. You're not rescuing one dog in the pet shop but practically giving a death sentence or life in a cage to more pups in mills and the other dogs in rescue stay in foster care. Also if you buy anything from shops that sell dogs you are supporting mills. I will never spend my money there. Here in Vegas it is still legal to sell dogs here in shops. Yesterday they had a meeting at city hall to ban the practice. Who but a franchise owner of Petland said pet shop owners would lose money if dogs sales were banned. Oh boo hoo! Find something else to sell to make money. They love it bc the ROI is insane. Buy a pup from a broker or mill for a few hundred dollars and turn around and sell it for $1000-4000! |

| This is a lose-lose situation (because of the greeders). I agree that buying from the stores only rewards the wrong people and perpetuates the problem. But I agree with the OP - how can your heart not bleed for these pups? It kills my soul to see those sad eyes in those cages. I want to take every one of them home and squeeze them tight until they know they are loved. Lose - lose.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Saying "puppy mills will never stop" is no different than saying "slavery will never stop" or "women will never have rights" -- it's within OUR power to stop them. NOT buying from them is the main way to stop these torture mills. Use your buying power wisely!

YT 500 Club Member | I think it does no good to just abstain from buying from pet stores . If you're not seen, then you're not heard. But if you go in and gather up an expensive purchase and get up to the counter and happen to remember out loud that money spent there promotes the torture of innocent animals in puppy mills and you refuse to give them your business ... well, then you've educated the other customers and let the store know they lost business and why. And they'll remember you while theyre putting all the crap away. lol. But thats just how i roll.

| Pretty simple really, if you knowingly buy any animal from a mill, then you are condoning, supporting and encouraging the mistreatment of those animals in the mills, the dogs that are the baby machines. If you buy from a pet store, it's more likely than not that pup is from a puppy mill. If you condone, support and encourage puppy mill operations by supporting them financially, then what kind of person would you be? |

Another thing to think about. If you buy a pup from a pet shop, not only is the mill and the shop getting rewards for exploiting animals, the dogs trapped in the mills have to produce more pups to fill the shops. The dog that a good home could have taken in from rescue doesn't get saved (since they bought from a shop), AND another dog that could have taken the empty spot can't get into rescue and continues to suffer. And rescues are ALWAYS full bc of the the puppymills and greeders!

This is the reason I stay away from any place that sells puppies.

| So I was in Petland over the weekend. I had to kill time in while I waited to get my phone fixed. My heart hurt for the puppies. I was surprised at the cost for them and what came in the puppy package. Financing for a puppy seemed so outrageous as well. I couldn't think to buy from a pet store because of puppy mills but it is a double edge sword because you could give a good home but then again buying from a pet store doesn't eliminate puppy mills only fuels the fire.
