| New owner with a hand full. Hello, we took a yorky from a puppy mill through what appears to be the mill placing an add in craigslist and my brother-in-law's ex taking it because it's..FREE! My stepfather noticed Sandy's odd behavior and rough way his granddaughter (sandy's adopter)would pick up and handle her. He also was told that she just didn't have the time to deal with Sandy. She had terrible breath, was not potty trained (the dog was supposedly 2 years old), and became terribly submissive when talked to. The worst was this habitual pacing in circles only to the left. We saw a bulge on her stomach and the breath was so bad we made an immediate vet appointment. He told us Sandy was at least five years old with a herniation and a terrible infection in her gums and her teeth were very, very bad. She had to endure Baytril for two weeks. She had surgury to repair the hernia and to neuter/spay? (new pet owner) and also to fix her teeth. Two teeth were left and I decided to not ask questions because I would find the place that had done this and probably get the police called on me because what could I really do? Missouri has terribly lax inspection policy. We loved her and trained her. When we found out how old she was and with two teeth left we spoil her. We were worried but because she seemed sick but I suspected the baytril and new home were at best not doing much to alleviate an obvious anxiety issue. It has been one month and she has put on weight and she looks better. We feed her cesars 3 times a day and now we are wondering about ideal feeding practices. I don't think she will ever get over the trauma just like she will forever have #190 tattoed on her stomach and left ear. She loves Dogzilla's yum it up as a "good girl" treat but we forgot where we got it and it seems very hard to find. She loves braunscweiger the replacement we came up with but it has a lot of fat. Tonight I experimented with crushing some small dog stuff she didn't like and mixing it with slightly heated braun and she went for it. I don't like it but I have to say when heated it smells like heaven. MY sister told me only two feedings a day so I thought you folks could help me out she weighs about six pounds. thanks |

YT 500 Club Member | Well bless your soul for taking her in. I'd love to know where she came from so we could break up their little horrifying party , though! But thank goodness you have such a big heart! I free feed, since mine are young, still have teeth and are spoiled rotten, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to guide you. Welcome!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and a big WELCOME to YT ! Bless your big hearts for taking this precious one in and FINALLY getting her the help and medical care she clearly needed so very badly. I can only imagine the difference she feels, not being in pain. I really can't bring myself to imagine what she's been through...puppy mills are horrific places of death and torture for living beings....they make me SICK. Feeding 2x a day is just fine, that's what many of us do. You may want to explore some better brands of dog food, perhaps go to Petsmart...they have some decent foods. My fave kibble is available on Amazon - it's Natures Logic...but you may be looking strictly for soft food....? I feed pre-made raw frozen (thawed/soft) by either Primal or Natures Variety. Treats I like to give are RMBs, CET Chews (on Amazon), Honest Kitchen Beams, Munchy Stix (Amazon). Keep us posted on how she's doing and give her some love from me !

| Bless you for taking care of this little one. We use very small pieces of Puperoni for treats. Also if you have a Trader Joes in your area, they have a dried liver treat that my dogs would do almost anything for.

YT 500 Club Member | I feed mine Merril wet food since they have an extensive line of grain free rotating menu flavors. My dogs love both the wet and dry of their line.

| A better food will help a lot. I use a holistic food called Acana. Many quality food lines make wet foods as well. Earthborn is a good brand. Acana, Fromm, orijen, wellness CORE- all are good foods. |

| Bless you for taking this baby in and seeing to its needs. With only two teeth I'm sure the vet can recommend what is the best. I feed Fromm dry and cut up chicken I cook. Buddybear loves raw carrots and apple pieces.
