| Thinking About The BIG Chop Hi we have a 3 month old male Yorkie who we love to the point of Obsession lol.....i have recently been seeing Beautiful pictures of Yorkie Pups and their Puppy Cuts.....now my question is How long does the Hair grow back if we decide to do this.......My Wife is TOTALLY AGAINST this idea she wants him to have the Long Flowing Hair like you see in the Books....and his hair is getting rather long.....its very Fine and Silky ....however i want him to look neat and clean.....and plus it will eventually grow back.......RIGHT?!?!?!?.....if his hair is this long already at 3 months i can just imagine what he will look like when he reaches a year...... |

| I shave my boy every 3-4 months! His hair is cottony though so it's kinda shaggy once grooming time comes about. I say their hair grows quick maybe within 2-3 months it'll be ready again for cutting

| If his hair is silky, it does not grow back quickly. A silk coat takes a long time to grow. Once you train the hair to grow with a part down the center, it will look neat, as long as you keep the hair clean.

| Cotton coats grow much quicker than silky coats. Cotton coats also grow "out" instead of down, so it looks like so much more hair. If your yorkie already has considerable length at three months, he is blessed. It usually takes at least a year for them to get the flowing look. We had Toto in full coat before. It took about a year for his coat to get that long. He has great hair, thick, silky and straight. The problem is he pees on it. To try to avoid that we tried pinning up his hair on walks, shaved his undercarriage, he still smelled really bad bc no matter what we did he still got pee on himself. So we ended up shaving him and just leaving his head and legs. We've since even shaved his legs bc it's so much work. I love the look of a topknot so I deal with that and the length on his head and neck. Who is the one in charge of the grooming, bc I'd think the one who does the larger share of the grooming will have less issue with the chop. BTW when I read "chop" I thought you were getting ready for his neuter!

| My girl has a silky coat and my groomer recently misunderstood my wishes and cut her super short all over and the growing back process is going slowly. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think it can take a loooong time to really grow out the hair long...just like it does for human hair...

| My girl has the cotton coat, but it's very shiny and soft. It grows like a friggin weed >_< lol If I let it out of control she looks "fat/fluffy", it's fairly thick, too. You're blessed if you got a silk coat but grows fast, as I hear the silk coats takes more time. The problem with having such long hair in any hair type, is the maintenance. If you're going for that very or fairly long "show coat", you'll have to keep the hair wrapped up when not "showing" or it'll tangle or get messed up easily. It's lots more work the longer it is. I just keep my girl's body hair no longer than a certain length (which is on the short side), but try to grow the top long for a tie or knot (I'm currently debating on this as she seems to not be comfortable with this.. she got the itches >_<) So honestly, I'd say unless she's a show dog, go with what's more comfortable for her.
