| Collar or Harness for Training ??? I am currenly using a harness on my 12 week old fur baby. Do you use a collar or harness for training, the trainer said collar would be better for training, but to use what I felt more comfortable with. I have not used a collar after reading about treachea collapse. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | My personal opinion would be stick with a harness - a collar on a little tiny yorkie can do some damage.... and it sounds like you're doing really well knowing this ...wonder why the trainer doesn't recommend a harness ? |

| I would use the harness. Princess has lots of really cute collars, but I never put a lead on her with them. When we walk it's with a harness. Sounds like you already started the classes. I would wait for all shots to be given before you continue. You don't want your furbaby to catch anything from the other pups.

| I use a harness, a cat one buy the way, this is the only one that fits. Collars most definitely cause tracheal problems. |

| Yes, he has started class, but he is doing private lessons until Feb 5th, then he starts regular classes. He gets his last shots this week. Think i will stick with the harness, he hates a collar anyway. Thanks to all. |

| Trainer said you have more control with the collar, but she is fine with the harness, said it may just take a little longer to train. |

| I use a harness for walking or training just in case she pulls, I don't want her to get hurt. She wears collars just for fashion!

| bunjee wears a harness for walking and a collar for training, per the trainer's recommendation. i would agree that using a collar for training is much better than using a harness. especially when practicing loose leash walking. use of a harness can encourage pulling or dragging and gives the puppy less incentive to be responsive to commands like "leave it". however, it is important to be careful when using a collar vs. a harness due to the collapse trachea issue. but overall, you need to do what you are most comfortable with. so good luck! |

| it all depends on your furbaby. I started Bouncer off on a collar and he did fine, but later on he got so excited that he's dart and do twists before doing my actualy command and end up choking himself so we switched to a harness.

| I think I will stay with the harness. He acts like someone is trying to kill him with the collar on, running around, biting at it and cutting flips. Would hate to have to try to handle him with a leash while the collar was on. I have put the collar on several times, truing to get him use to it, but no way. He doesn't seem to mind the harness. |
