Fee Thanks, that is a pain, but as you say, not compared to $2000 ! If the vet sends in the claim fast you can get paid quite quickly. Usually I find before I have to pay my credit card bill. So sorry about your sick baby, hope she gets well, soon.

Sick baby Oh no, what a thing to happen at this time too. The cost and timing are both bad! Praying she will be ok by the weekend and you can happily see your daughter graduate without worrying about a sick baby. Amazing how pups can recover from illness, so keep fingers crossed. I hope you will hold off on insurance until she is better and that it was just a GI upset with no specific diagnosis. No preexisting!

I went with Healthy Paws. Most insurance will not pay for the vet visit so be careful unless you pay extra each month and unless you go to the vet more than once a month its not worth it. A few things I learned: 1. I called during the waiting period and mentioned I saw some scratching and because I took my dog to the vet afterwards now it is being considered pre-existing so I would be careful not to call and ask questions during the waiting period and do not say when you saw the symptoms start. You can call and speak to a rep before enrolling also ask to speak to the claims adjustor if you want to ask about a specific illness/injury 2. Each insurance company has its pros/cons choose the best one that fits your needs. 3. Some Insurance have a per accident/illness deductible and a lifetime maximums 4. I went with Healthy Paws because they have a yearly deductible no matter how many illnesses and no lifetime maximum. Though they do have a yearly maximum of about $22,000 (but it resets each year) 5. Ask lots of questions and read their sample policy very carefully 6. Canine Journal has a great article on the best and worst pet insurances its very informative. Pet Insurance Comparison 2015: Are You Ready For a Vet Emergency? Overall I think Pet Insurance is a great option to have especially for those that do not have thousands of dollars sitting in a bank account.

Healthy paws etc I agree Healthy Paws is a very good insurance company. One thing that was not mentioned in the excellent link is that HP premiums increase with age I believe whereas Trupanion does not. They only increase if the vet cost in a given area changes. Although I was impressed by the HP yearly deductible as well, with T there is only one deductible per disease even if there are multiple incidents. T has worked out well for me , and the right company for anyone depends on what an individual's needs are. This is a complex matter to delve through! I decided to have zero deductible at T, so it did not affect me. But that meant a higher premium.

If you are considering this, do not mention anything medical over the phone unless you are directly asked, and keep the answers very specific to the question they ask, or it may come back and bite you later.
