| New and Need Help!!!!! Hello All: Just wanted to say that this site has been a big help in regards to the valuable info that it offers to any Yorkie owner. I am due to pick up my baby this week and i am extremely nervous as this is my first pet. (lol...yes, and i am a adult). But just wanted to introduce myselt to the site and any tips and advice offered would be greatly appreciated. Right now, i am just concerned with things i need to watch out for being that i live in a apartment and it being so young. My yorkie will be 10 weeks. Also, what would i need to bring to pick and the first few things that i will need to have handy on the arrival of my yorkie. Thanks for all your help.

| Hello and Welcome!!! First and formost I would have nutri-cal/nutra-stat or nutra-drops in case of low blood sugar!!! Hopefully your breeder will have already thought of that among other things. How much info has your breeder already given you or do expect alot when you go to pick up? I had a crate, toys, receiving blankets, food, potty situation figured out ie..litterbox or piddle pads, oh so many things its hard to remember but definitely blood sugar protection is a must!! How far do you have to go? You may want some baby wipes with you in case of upset tummy on the ride. And one thing I am sure you already have...lots of love!! Just enjoy your first times together they are just like babies they grow toooooooo fast!!!!! Good Luck!!! I am sure someone else here will also have other good advice!! |

| Hi welcome to yt and congrats on getting your first baby! Well, some of the things that I picked up before I got mine were..............a nice soft little bed, a crate for him to sleep in at night, food, treats for puppies, if you are paper training him then you will need the pee pads......ummm, food and water dish, a couple of toys, dog brush, doggy shampoo. Just try and be aware of things in your apartment, like wires that might get chewed and cause shock, toilet seats being up, you know, just look around and make sure there is nothing that the pup can get into and get hurt on. Thats all I can think of right now but good luck and let me know how it goes.

| Hello and Thank you for your response. I will only have to travel like 30 minutes to an hour driving. I was going to invest in maybe a carrier for the transport. Good idea? Also, how do you tell if the yorkie has low blood suger? What are the indications or symptoms i should look out for?

| Try to get a wire crate that has the divider in it so you can use the divider at 1st when it's still a puppy. When you 1st get her home, just give her a little small area in the crate that is large enough to stand up and turn around. Much bigger and she'll be going potty in there and you sure don't want that!*!

| YAY a new little one.....how very exciting for you and for all of us too..heehee! Did the breeder tell you what she provides because most supply a lot with the puppy especially to a newbie who has never had a dog before. It's the Puppy Care Package. My breeder gave me the crate, a blanket, a bed, a carrier, a couple of toys, a weeks worth of the food she had been feeding, a syringe w/medication called albon to ward off coccicidia, a tube of nutrical, a bottle of pedialyte, a can of puppy milk, one free vet visit to her vet, and written instructions on the care of the new puppy as well as the health certificate from the vet, the shot records and a book on yorkies. This was from two different breeders and they both gave about the same except the free visit to the vet since the one was from Texas. The first one also spent two hours with me going over the written instructions and telling me how to care for the baby. If the breeder doesn't give all of this then you will need to purchase it in addition to a few other things like a harness and leash, an xpen, some treats for training like Natural Balance rolls (they're great) and a brush and shampoo and conditioner to keep the coat nice as well as a toothbrucsh and doggy toothpaste. Good luck and post pics as soon as you can.... |
