| Help! A "tail" of new puppies.. I have four new furbabies from my Maltese/ Yorkie. Two take the Yorkie trait and 2 look like Maletese... Do I crop the tails of my two with Yorkie Markings? They are so cute now, but afraid they will look silly later.😁 I'm afraid it is too late, even though the vet said she was willing untill 5 weeks.(they were born October1) |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If I were you, I'd leave the tails natural . Leave them as is....don't put them through an amputation of a body part.

| I second that. My yorkie has her tail and I absolutely love it. In my opinon, there is no need to dock the tail anymore. In other parts of the world it is illegal. Removing the tail now is like removing a perfectly functioning arm for a fashion statement. |

| Do NOT crop, most pet quality buyers seem to prefer tails now.

| If I had the option that you do, I wouldn't crop the tail. Teddy's breeder docked the tails when they were really young so I never had a choice. I love him just the way he is, but I don't think it's necessary to amputate anything on an animal unless their life is at risk. |

| Don't dock. Long tails are adorable. They look like little happy flags waving.

| Tail docking is done usually at age of 3 days old, before the nerve endings have fully vasculated the tails....5 days is pushing it....but 5 weeks is WAY too old.....there is no reason or need/requirement to dock these tails! |

YT 1000 Club Member | I have 2 Yorkie mix puppies and they have their tails and I play with their tails, they are the most adorable things ever. I would not dock the tails on any of the puppies. A friend of mine said that her vet recommends not docking tails on any Yorkie mix and any puppy not destined for the show ring. Let them keep their tails, trust me that they are super adorable! They are not pure bred and will not be shown so let them keep them. I promise they will be absolutely stunning with their tails!

| I love Duchess's tail. I know exactly what she is thinking with her tail, no need to guess. I know when she is about to get in trouble, I know when she is about to attack, I know when she is happy, I know when she is curious about something. I know all of this from her tail. He r tail has different positions for whatever mood she is in. I hope you don't get it docked. Like someone mention, at 5 weeks I would imagine that is like cutting off an arm for no reason at all. |

| Lola is a mix and has the most fabulous tail, I have to honest most people that meet her that have pups with docked tails are jealous. You just have to leave them, please don't dock them. I had a lady over the other day I was helping her find a yorkie puppy and were looking at puppies on the computer and she just kept saying oh I wish they still had their tails. In Europe it is against the law to dock the tails and the tide is turning here in the US most people seem to be against the practice
