YorkieTalk Newbie! | Puppy with Dandruff Hello everyone, I'm new here and searching for answers on how to help my puppy with her dandruff. Unfortunately, she is only 6 1/2 weeks of age and I'm not sure what will be suitable for her. I've had her since she was 2 weeks old as an orphan (her mother died and her previous owner could no longer take care of her) and have nursed her to health. She's recently had her first set of vaccinations this past Thursday and I'm curious to know if this had any effect on her skin. Anyone with any knowledge on this subject, I would greatly appreciate it |

| I wish I could help, but I'm so pet ignorant, I either call or run my baby to the vet if I have the slightest question. I'm sure there are shampoos, but I wouldn't know about the safety for such a young baby -- maybe the vet could you that much. God bless you for taking this baby in and best of luck with the dandruff. If it were people dandruff, I'm very well versed! LOL! |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thank you for your responses! Hopefully it only dandruff. She scratches herself 60% of the day. At first I thought it may be fleas so the vet gave her some flea medicine, but now she has white flakes on her coat. She's not scheduled to go the vet until Oct. 29, but now I think I might take her earlier just to make sure. |

| You might check with the vet before treating just to make sure this is not a fungal infection. While there getting that skin tested, ask them about shampoos for dandruff if that is all it is.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT - and bless your heart for helping this little one live without its Momma, poor little thing! It must've been SO much work, my gosh. Okay, first things first....she should *not* have been given any vaccines whatsoever until she was at least 8 wks of age. Any vaccines given prior to that are basically totally ineffective due to the immaturity of her immune system. So, now, due to being given too early...she will need a total of 4 sets of vaccines, rather than just the 3 sets....which is too bad bc you really want to give her little body the least amount of vaccine possible. Here is a thread that has the proper schedule (by AAHA, which all good vets follow!) of vaccinations: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-overview.html As far as the dandruff, it's probably just some puppy dandruff that will go away over time..so I'm not sure I'd do to much about it to be honest. Perhaps as a pre-bath, put some coconut oil all over her skin, wait 10 mintues, and then bathe. You could also add a little bit (VERY tiny to start!!!) to her food too.

| Oliver had dandruff. I asked the vet, I asked groomers, and nobody offered any advice that worked. So finally I did what I knew I should do in the first place. I put him on Blue Buffalo food. His dandruff cleared up and hasn't come back.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | My little one had that and my groomer called it cradle cap - My vet said to bathe her in Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo - the purple one- and we changed her food to Salmon formula - she is all cleared up and has hair that is beautiful!

| LOL @ Yorkie Hoarder! I have 1 yorkie and 1 poodle (she was my daughters but I somehow ended up with her ), Jingle (now passed) was my first yorkie, when he passed away it didn't take me long to figure my house was no longer a home without a yorkie...so along came Presley and he is my wild child, Holly my poodle is a docile little girl, very prissy. Presley is ready to roll as soon as his paws hit the floor, lol! I can see myself being a "Yorkie Hoarder" one day!
