| Having trouble with "down" I am trying to teach Tessa the down command; however, not having any luck. The problem is when I lure her nose down with a treat from the sit position her bum pops up in the air. I have tried everything – putting the treat closer down right under her nose between her front paws and even off to the side a little bit but no matter what I do – her bum pops up in the air and I just can't get her full body down at all. Anybody else have this problem with their Yorkie and any suggestions? |

| I slowly moved the treat forward when Sophie did this and as soon as she put her butt down to crawl toward it, I gave the treat. Worked for her. Good luck! |

| No advice, but I'm laughing as I picture your training sessions! I'd love to see a video because Tessa must be too, too adorable as her little self tries to do as you ask, yet, boing-goes-the-butt. I just love it! No help, I know, but picturing your Tessa surely has brightened my day. Below is Piper asking for a treat--my resolve kinda dissolves when Piper works her look-how-cuuu-ute routine. |

| Jezebel and I had trouble with this in puppy class. We first did "sit," and she caught onto really fast. Going from the sit position to the down just wasn't working. The instructor improvised by having sit on the floor with my with one legs bent at the knee and the foot still on the ground (like an upside down V). We placed Jezebel under my bent leg and I would straighten my leg, gently forcing her down, while I gave the down command and treated her. She caught on to the command really quick that way.
