| Would you choose a boy or a girl? I would love to hear from those of you who have had both boy and girl Yorkies. When the day comes that you no longer have a Yorkie in your life, and you could only get ONE, would you choose a boy or a girl? And why? I have never had a boy (but will be getting one soon) and would love to know the differences between them. Thanks! :-) |

| Everyone is devoted to one or the other, or both, for their own personal reasons and encounters and interactions....speaking for my self, having had both males and females, some whose job was breeder, and some who just shared my heart and soul and bed (the breeders do not sleep with me!), I can say, little boys have a special place in my heart like no other! I adore all my dogs, and would probably fight to the death for any of them, as most of them would for me.....I have a couple of cowards that would probably hide!!!....but these little boys.....they absolutely adore me and worship the ground I walk on....my ladies are like little girls....they will cop an attitude in a heartbeat if they dont get their way...they pout, they cry, they hide....my precious little boys just sit at my feet, looking up at me with the most adoring eyes....I could easily be Athena, or Venus, or ANY stunning goddess in the reflection of their eyes, in their precious little minds, and in their tiny little hearts that just absolutely explode with love and adoration at the sight of ME!!!!! I just idolize my precious little boys!!! My little girls are precious and adorable, until I ask something of them they are not really wanting to give to me.....they want what they want, and they want it NOW, thank you very much! If I refuse, they pout and sulk and ignore me.....I had one little girl that would pout for as much as 4 days, before she warmed back up to me! They are JUST like little girls when they can not have their way or run the show around here....pouty, spoiled, indifferent, unsociable, sassy, stuck up, snotty, sullen, cry babies! But OMG!!! Them precious little boys LOVE, ADORE, and IDOLIZE momma and will turn themselves upside down-inside out for me, and just thrilled to have the opportunity to do so!!!! ..... |

| I loved reading your post, Yorkiemom, and laughed out loud. It is the first time I have laughed since Chanel died, so I truly thank you for that. :-) I don't know why I always wanted just girls, probably because I always wanted a daughter but never had one. Now I can't wait to see what little boys are all about. Thank you so much for such an enlightening, informative and hilarious post. :-) |

| Yorkiemom, I am still chuckling over your post! You should have been a writer. Way too funny! All of a sudden, I am not worried about getting a boy anymore. Thank you for diminishing the doubt I had about getting a boy. I truly appreciate your answer, thank you so much!!! :-) I have to admit that the main reason I never wanted a boy is because I thought they all lifted their legs to pee, and I did not want markings in my house. But my breeder said that once boys are fixed, they will no longer lift their legs to pee, so I decided to take a chance. From what you have written, I now believe I am going to be so glad I did! :-) |

Not 100% of the time, I was told....but if you get them neutered around 7-8 months old, while you still see him squatting to pee, and his bone plates have reached maturity, he is good to go! I have never had one hike their leg to pee when I got them neutered right at 8 months old....if that little squirt starts to try to call himself hiking to pee, and it is CLOSE to 7-8 months, go with him and have it done!! As Barney Fife on Andy Griffth show used to say, "NIP IT....NIP IT...NIP IT IN THE BUD!!!!" (Just about any breeder will tell you little boys are absolutely, unequivocally devoted to you, but people think we tell them that just to sell boys, because everyone want little girls and boys are more difficult to move!..Believe me, not true...you will adore your baby boy and he will absolutely idolize you and the ground you walk on!!) | |

| You are right, my breeder said that Boys fall in love with you, but Girls only love you. She had two boys to sell and no girls, so I did wonder......... Now I am more excited than ever to bring my puppy home! Thanks for the a advice about getting him neutered, I will make sure to keep a careful eye on him and nip it in the bud before it is too late. :-) |

| I always had female dogs before Wall-e, so when we picked him up it was a whole new thing for me. I can say for sure, Wall-e adores me. When he was 5 months old and full of puppy energy, I came down with a bad flu and was in bed for 3 days. Wall-e stayed in bed with me for all three days, only getting down to potty or eat. My husband was home the whole time too, but Wall-e wouldn't leave my side. Definitely have never second guessed getting a boy!

| Wall-e sounds like a vey precious gem! Who wouldn't want company in bed all day long when they are feeling sick? What a sweetie he is. I am just amazed, I had no idea that boys were more loving than girls. Am SO glad I let the breeder talk me into getting a boy! |

| We just got our little fella in May and he was probably almost a year old at that time. He was neutered before we could bring him home, and he still hikes his leg. So yeah, get it done sooner if that helps because they do not typically seem to go back to squatting after neutered if they are already in the habit. I would not trade my two boys for anything. Mario is devoted to the whole family, but super glued more often to me.

As to your last paragraph, YES, I love my boys .. and they are definitely more cuddly and loving in my opinion. I love my girls as well...but if I had to choose only one...it would most likley be a boy.

| In my adult life I have had 8 / 9 female puppies, the last 4 were yorkies, I LOVE girls. Nov.12 will be 2 years I adopted my first boy, he was then 2.5 y/o he is now 4 y/o. He was neutered at 1 year old (I have some of his medical papers prom prev.owner) he does not hike his leg, the one time he did was last year when I was walking along a wooden fence, I guess other males had peed on it so up went the leg, I freaked out lol. Now when we walk in unfamiliar places I keep farrrrr away from fences, walls, trees, anything that would cause leg hiking. As far as personalities male vs females, I myself do not see any diff. my girls were sweet lil cuddle bugs, I only had one sensitive little girl that you could not scold or raise your voice to her, she would pout and punish me by going under the bed for hours, which ended up with me on the floor BEGGING her forgiveness and coaxing her out with treats lol, it broke my heart that I hurt her feelings, at that time she was the baby in a pack of 3, the 2 older girls pampered her, cleaned her, guarded her, she was the favorite of my entire family and friends, more spoiled rotten cos she was the smallest of the pack at 9 lbs. and a personality that would melt your heart. My boy is very much like my girls, he sticks to me like glue, he needs to be pressed against me if I am sitting down but so were my girls. If I had no dog and had to choose between girl or boy, I would choose a girl, especially now with all the frilly bows and dresses. I am partial to girls, maybe because I never had a girl child only a son.

| lol, I LOVE those little dresses and frilly bows so much I AM going to buy at least one each for little Cody to wear. He's neutered, who is going to LOOK to see if he's boy or girl lol. And he has lots of macho boy shirts.
