| Another red legged yorkie question We adopted a dog from a pound, and everyone asks me what kind he is. So, I have been combing the net to find out. I have looked at some of the photos on here (the ones that load), and I am still unclear. I have never had or been around a Yorkie much before. Does he look he could be part red legged Yorkie? He is about a year old and I will post some photos: http://i62.tinypic.com/5b8sbo.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/npjtc8.png Thanks for |

| Thanks I forgot to add: He is wired haired. The hair is longest around his face and neck. It is shorter on his body, about 2"+ on his back, and shorter on his tummy. He is super smart, despite not being taught anything by his previous owners. We are training him to be a service animal (autistic service dog), so a lot of people see him, and almost everyone asks me what kind he is. He is picking up his training really well. |

| They are considered a throw back closer to the original breed. They have shorter hair (2-6") that is wiry, they tend to be bigger and have more defined colors. Here is a search on this forum for them: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sea...archid=7134809 |

| He definitely has the markings of a yorkie! But bc of the wire hair and his size, he may either be a yorkie mix or a poorly bred yorkie from a byb. Doesn't matter bc you saved a life and thank you for that! And thank you for training him to become a service dog. I would just say he's a yorkie mix when asked.

| OMG he's adorable, defiantly a yorkie, I agree with capt_noonie, either mix or poorly bred yorkie from a back yard breeder (BYB). In the past I had in my family and a friend buy a male then a female, at proper age mated them up, some had long legs, short body, some had bad hair. I don't see red leg yorkie in him, do see yorkie. Thank you for rescuing this sweet little baby. I also have a yorkie rescue.

YT 1000 Club Member | So awesome that he found you! I think he is probably a Yorkie mix. Cute for sure. I would just say he is a Yorkie Mix. That is what I say about my puppies when asked what they are. I am glad he found a good home and is getting training and love.

| Thanks for all the replies guys. His name is Mario. That is what the shelter named him, and they had him for about 3 weeks, and we did not want to change his name on him again. It seems to fit him anyway. He was found in a walmart parking lot running with his brother. They named the brother Luigi from Super Mario Brothers. The brother was adopted a week after Mario was. He was a bit smaller and lighter in color, but hair length and quality were the same. Mario's hair has gotten softer every time I bathe him. We have had him about 3 months now. He was 8.2lbs when we got him, but he was a bit skinny then. The brother was 7.3 I believe. Anyway, thanks again. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Mario and Luigi! I think I would have taken both of them home with me. LOL I love their names. My husband's softball nickname is Mario because he keeps on going and never runs out of energy. He was the oldest guy on the team several years ago and he could outrun all but the guys 21 and under. Guys 10-15 years younger than him couldn't keep up. With his mustache he got the nickname Mario and it has stuck ever since.

| I have nicknamed Mario "bullet with legs" and we holler "incoming!!" as he runs down the hall or across the living room because someones lap is about to be "invaded". He is fast. He can outrun our Airdale terrier outside, and the airdale is 65lbs, so much bigger with a much greater leg length. Mario also has a fast tongue....he aims for the roof of our mouths with tremendous accuracy. Is this a common yorkie trait? I know licking is, but the roof of the mouth??? |
