ideal weight? So my Lucy had her yearly check up. Her vet said that she should be weighing 5.5 lbs. She weighs 6 lbs. She doesn't look fat to me. My vet wasn't worried just said that it was something to keep an eye on. Is this something I should be worried about?

When Ziva was two her weight had gone up to almost 8 lbs. I didn't know that much about small dogs and she is kind of boxy... Our vet was very insistent that I get some weight off her.I cut her food down bit by bit and started walking her every evening. It took 6 months to get her to 7 lbs and now weighs 6 1/2 and I keep a close eye on her. She is much more active and perky without the weight! She is 6 years and her little sister Abby does not have the tendency to gain weight so easily.

I would just make sure she doesnt gain any more.....that being said strictly from what your vet has determined is appropriate for your baby. It is always easier to maintain than it is to start trying to loose weight, just like it is with us!! My babies actually gain weight too during the summer months because they are not as active in 100*+ temps....we have our activity time, but I dont push exercise in this horrible heat....mine do best the entire rest of the year, especially since our winters down here are so mild, lots of time for activities in the yard without suffering heat exhaustion.... I have already adjusted meals down to 1/2 cup RC kibble, plus 1/2 cup green beans, cooked carrots, and peas. They all get frozen yogurt treats....yogurt that I freeze, not the ice cream type frozen yogurt.....also frozen cottage cheese is something they really enjoy during the summer heat!
