YT 500 Club Member | What to do... OK here's the situation... My friend just called me with the situation and they're looking to me to deal with it because that's what I do. They live in the next town over which is kind of one of those hillbilly-ish towns. And I guess there's A certain property that they go past all of the time that constantly leave the gate open and as a result of this my friend's father and a friend of his that lives on that road, have each hit and killed a Yorkie that is gotten off of that property and onto the roads . There is no lighting out there so you can't see these dogs . It's a dirt road. And after they hit them they went up to the property , knocked on the door and spoke to the owners and let them know of what just happened and the owners didn't seem to care . Not only that they left the bodies of the two dogs still laying outside and it's been a few days now and they are still lying outside. There are two more yorkie's on that property and they just keep going up to the bodies of the others and sitting by them. It's awful and sad . And these people don't give a damn. There are other stray dogs, much bigger dogs, all around there. These dogs are going to end up with the same fate or worse as the other two and the owners don't care. They won't close their gate to ensure the dogs safety. Therefore they just run free .Animal control is ineffective in that town. They've been called 3 times before, with no results. My friends father and his friend went back to the house today and picked up the bodies of the two yorkies they accidentally hit and took them and buried them properly. Owners never even said a word. So I guess her father is going to try and get the other two to come to him and if so, they want to bring them to me. Just wanting your thoughts on this... |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | In my book? YOU GO FOR IT! Get those poor dogs out of this situation. They very clearly don't give a flying crap as to what happens to those in their care. To heck w/ the people, save the dogs while they're still alive.

| I say go get those little Yorkies--they need saving and no one needs to know anything at all and all very best of luck in this mission. Bless you and yours for coming through for these little ones when they need rescuing so very much! I'm praying you all can make this happen...(ps, once I "stole" two 6 month old kittens from a neighbor after one rode on my icy roof for several blocks and after I found the other under a bush in the cold, pouring rain--drenched. You know what? I felt GREAT about what I did from beginning to re-homing felines with friends...and I blatantly admitted that I stole those sweet things). I'm truly praying for your speedy success!!! |

| I would find the sweetest smelling steak and get those dogs out onto the road and into your car. The idiots living there probably won't even care. I don't know what the legal ramifications are but I know it would be the right thing to do.

| I too say GO FOR IT. Obviously these ppl don't give a damm about these precious babies and prob. wouldn't even know they were gone. How do you leave 2 of your dogs DEAD in the road for days. The visual of the other 2 sitting by their dead BFF bodies has brought tears to my eyes. I would do as Bob (maxdog) suggested, get cooked meat to entice them. You are a town away, the dogs will be safe with you. But, keep in mind your own 3 dogs safety, and can you re-home these two precious lil pups. If I lived closer to you I would be knocking on your door right now to go rescue these babies.

| Be careful. You may have good intentions but be accused of theft. Contact the ASPCA and ask for an intervention. Report the town's Animal Control (or lack of control) to selectmen. My 2 cents. |

YT 500 Club Member | The lack of follow through and give a s**t associated with that town and animal control is notorious. Everyone I've ever known from there has stories of mistreated animals and nothing ever being done about it when reported. It's so sad. But I don't see us getting into much trouble . Since they would have to A) care enough to even pay attention B) closed their gate so it could be considered a theft, and C) find me. And to be quite honest I wasn't an angel in my past and I'm pretty sure stealing a dog would be the mellowist most trivial charge I've ever been given. I would laugh my ass off and smile for the mug shot. |

| My little sister has gone through a problem years ago. Not with a yorkie but a puppy. My crazy neighbors across the street have gone through so many dogs over the years you never really see the same dog two years in a row. They just let roam the streets and they disappear. About six years ago my sister and I noticed a little white and black puppy roaming around my yard. Poor thing wasn't acting like a puppy should so before my sister left for the night she took the puppy with her. I got a call a few hours later that she had had to rush the puppy to the emergency vet. The puppy had so much worms in her she needed a blood transfusion. If she hadn't taken the puppy that day the puppy would have been dead the next morning. A few days later she came back and went and asked the neighbors if the puppy was theirs. It was and they wanted her back til my sister told them all what was wrong with the puppy. They told her to keep the dog. Now Lucy is one of the best dogs I have ever known. My opinion is it is better to ask forgiveness than permission. It drives me up the wall people just let their dogs roam free. I would lure those poor babies off and say I found some strays put flyers up and see if those people respond. |

| Good point. Maybe they could go to the people's door and say they think they "might have hit the other dogs with their car", and if the people would sign the dogs over to them they will get them to the vet.

| EXACTLY! While stealing is very wrong (i would be devastated if it happened to me) it's more of a rescue mission. I wonder if you asked them if they wanted to give them up what might come of it?

| Somewhat Off topic but my husband and I were discussing this the other day. Where we live now there are dogs and cats roaming EVERYWHERE! It drives me crazy ....not only is it dangerous....it's rude. Dogs and cats poop in OUR yard and our dogs receive whatever germs their dog carries. OUR dogs are out in OUR yard on a leash....I have to be on high alert because there are loose pit bulls that run around. Three times now I've been in the yard with Winnie on her leash and had to haul her up like a fish on a line because a pit comes storming in out of the dark. Animal control (thankfully) is quite active here and are genuinely trying to locate the owners of said dogs (they are uncatchable) and the little male chihuahua that shows up at our house almost daily (wearing a shirt most days) has severe diarrhea. I've had to treat our yard multiple times just to be on the safe side. I say....if you don't care enough about your dog to keep it safe and respect your neighbors pets safety and health , don't have them. Ignorant people like these folks with the yorkies are just infuriating.
