| yorkie pup coloring after a shave? Hello all, my yorkie puppy is 4.5 months old and had his first trip to the groomers yesterday. my puppy had the fluffiest and most beautiful Black and Tan coat. but unfortunately, he was matted at the roots and the groomer insisted on shaving him, my mistake because if I knew I could get the matts out myself I would have never allowed it. she shaved him as short as they could! he is completely naked and neither of us like it. and now he's completely gray and gold? will his hair stay these colors or go back to his Black and Tan fluffiness? and how long before his fur is a decent length again? you can't even tell it's the same dog. 😔 |

| Blazer had his first grooming around that same age and he, too, was shaved down shorter than I wanted (though he wasn't matted, he likes being combed out) and his color changed dramatically. He is now blonde with darker gold "boots" and head. I love his colors, but he didn't come out looking like the same pup I brought in! I ended up learning to groom him myself after that

| Dinky's colors have changed slowly and consistently over time. Maybe the coat will look different yet when it is grown again. I know that the longer Dinky's hair is, the cuter he looks. Still, I like to keep it pretty short in the summer. It always grows back! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT . The coat will change a lot over the next 1.5 yrs or so, so be prepared for that. If he is now showing gray and gold, that will be the next stage of his hair color. It's unlikely that it'd then turn black again. I'm sure he's precious no matter what color he ends up though, right?

| Of course you do...LOL. Ideally, his hair will be silky, but may be these colors, not darker again. I would think his hair would grow out fairly quickly, but the 'fluffy' hair may have just been puppy hair that he would have lost anyway as his adult coat matured. He is a cutie!

| We had to shave Bella down pretty tight too. We put her in a onesie instead of leaving her in a cone after her surgery. After almost two weeks in her dress, her hair was knotted and unrecoverable. She looked like a Chihuahua with a lion head for a while, but her hair is growing back in nicely. She also lost a lot of the black and tan fur but you can see her blonde and steel blue coming in. As already noted, they will change colors for the first couple of years, so don't get too attached to any particular look.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It will grow back . In the meantime, make sure you get yourself a buttercomb or similar so that you can work the mats out of his coat next time, instead of being stuck shaving. For my 2 in long coat: 1 of them I have to brush every other day, and the other one I have to brush about every 3-4 days....otherwise, mat disasters!

| Every time Abigail is groomed she has more steel blue on her back. I had been told to expect it though, so it wasn't a big shock. I do miss her black and gold! |

| I knew he would eventually become steel blue and gold but I wasn't expecting so soon! he isn't even 5 months yet. and I didn't know his first groom would speed up this process. 😕 getting use to it though, still a cutie. |

| Sissy has a longer coat and requires daily grooming or I pay the price. Bubba I just had shaved down because he looked like a tumble weed. His body coat was light steel with gold head and legs. but his body has really dark roots so now he looks almost black.
