| Weird skin thing Cali has some odd scabby places on her skin. The first one I noticed is on her paw, which she had bitten to the point where it was kind of bleeding. When I found that one I checked her over and found that she has scattered scabby bumps on her body. There's not a ton, but enough. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, and hasn't messed with the first spot any more. Any ideas? I'm taking her in to the vet to be groomed on Tuesday anyway, so I am going to ask them to look at it then but just wanted to get some feedback here in the meantime.

| Best guess is allergies from what you're describing... You said she's not messing with the first "spot" any more.. how many spots are there? Is she licking her paws often? Rubbing face on the carpet, things like that? If so, maybe give her some benadryl. |

| No, she is behaving normally. Right now she is cuddled up asleep on the couch. There are quite a few! One at the base of her spine, a cluster on her left side, the one on her paw (well, more of her ankle than her paw I suppose)...and that's all I know of at the moment. For what it's worth, her hair is super thick right now. She's got a cotton coat, and this is the thickest it has ever been. Could that have something to do with it?

| I'm definitely no expert but.. I don't think it has anything to do with the coat... Did you find out why she was biting her paw? Was this after a walk? If she bite it to a point where it was bleeding, I'm guessing she came into contact with something and her skin may be having some sort of allergic reaction... |

| I highly suggest going to a vet dermatologist. Wish I had known a specialist such as this existed when Piccolo had skin problems. They can do skin scrappings and biopsies. Really, it was cheaper in the long run than going to the regular vet over and over again.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It sounds like it could be pyoderma, aka an overgrowth of staph intermedius - which is an infection that is treated w/ Simplicef x 30 days. Often, pyoderma is secondary to allergies. If she chews/licks her paws at all, this is a sign of allergies. They should do a skin scraping at the vet to determine pyoderma, very simple. | She has an itch there and she probrbly over scratche/d gnawedon it to the point of breaking skin. You should go buy some dog shampoo that kills bacteria and clean the area thoroughly. I would trim the hair around the area and gently exfoliate the area so that the scab will come off if its ready to come off. If done right it will heal up in no time. Happen to my dog once. |
