| New Member Hi everyone. I'm a new member to the site and a new Yorkie owner. Lost our almost 11 year old female Toy Fox Terrier due to cancer in May and got our little Sophie to be another companion to our 11 year old male TFT. Love her to pieces but at 4 months she's somewhat terrorizing him. Finding good info here on the breed that is new to us. Love the site. |

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby. Yorkie babies are little terrorist with older dogs lol, yorkie babies are super hyper and love to rough play. Older dogs fear babies because 1-they don't know what it is that you just bought home lol...2-Older dogs do not like being pounced on, nipped at, chased and tackled. ....My older dogs would stay on high grounds (the sofa lol) when a new baby came home. Give your older dog a safe place to get away from the terrorist, a place where he can rest and be safe. With in a short time your older dog will accept this hyper kid and will be the best of buds. Enjoy your this time with your little terrorist, they grow so fast.

YT 1000 Club Member | Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I was asked last fall if I wanted a puppy if my friend had some (in the future) and I said yes. In January I was given a 9 year old Yorkie whom I totally adore. Puppies arrive a few months later. I end up getting 2, one of me and one for my daughter. My 9 year old Yorkie who has bonded with me by this time acted like I ruined his life bringing these puppies home. I felt terrible and felt like I had made a huge mistake. Fast forward to now. One of the puppies is never home, as she is with my daughter who is house sitting most of the summer and takes her puppy with her. The puppy I got for me and my 9 year old Yorkie play and wrestle and sleep together on the couch (and in my bed). They are so great together! Give it time, and I do mean lots of time! LOL. It was several weeks that we had the puppy before my older dog would even come down off the back of the couch to see what these terrors were. Then he started following them from room to room as they played. Then he started joining in. When it was one on one with my puppy and him they really started to get along. Now they are best buddies, but it took months so be prepared to be patient and the older dog will come around. As the puppy calms down with age that helps too. My puppies would see the older dog come down off the couch and both of them would just pounce on him at once and I would have to rescue him and lift him out of the mess to keep him safe and put him back on the back of the couch. It just takes time. I am so happy I did get the puppy because my older Yorkie is even happier now than he was when it was just him and I.
