| Reminder- Fence Checks! I just want to remind everyone to check for holes or broken slats in there fences. I always let my girls out in the backyard by themselves for only about 5 minutes at a time because I am so paranoid, but I also make sure to check the perimeter of the fence at least twice a month. Even if your dogs dont usually dig holes, you may have neighboring dogs that do, so its a good idea to check. Another suggestions- I used to have a problem with my next doors neighboors grandchildren would somehow get thier toys over the fence and into my yard and they used to help themselves to my backyard to retrieve them, which could have been okay, except they could never properly shut my gate and I wouldnt even know it was open. I could have lost my dogs several times had I not caught that the gate wasnt shut properly. So I put a padlock on my gate and a "beware of dogs" sign to keep everyone out. It has worked like a charm Safety is key! Yorkies(and other furbabies) are too precious to let something happen to them

| Great post, Shana! We do need this reminder every now and then! I am betting there are many people who will be taking a look at their fence first thing in the morning! Nice job, girl.

| Great thread Shana!! Safety is so important. My westie is a true ratter and she digs up a storm and always gets out in this way. I have hired a guy this weekend to put up small gage wire 28" up my wrought iron fence so that if my yorkies ever get lose in the back yard, they cannot get through or under the fence. Right now I have a covered patio area that is xpenned off for them. We have birds of prey so thay are not allowed in the backyard without being on a leash or being held. We also have coyotes and I found this on the internet and are having it installed in areas of the fence that the coyotes could jump. http://www.coyoteroller.com/Products/flash_demo.html |

| I just had to deal with this this week, Shana! The Widget is so small that she managed to dig a hole and get out of the dog's yard! She wasn't trying to run away or anything, she just wanted to smell where the squirrels play. As soon as I called her, she came running and came back through her hole, so at least I knew how she got out!! I've been in this house almost five years, and she's the first one to even try to escape!!

| I've had small and large dogs ... with the large dogs we had to put an electric wire around the bottom of the fence to keep them from digging out. The little guys were held in bounds by just putting a green metal landscaping border around the edge of the fencing .... right next to the fence boards. That way there weren't any small gaps to give them ideas. |

| I was just thinking about that. We have so many holes in our back yard Jeremiah already escaped twice, once with Jane and once with Buddy. And I really don't want that to happen again. Thanks for the reminder.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I check my fence EVERY DAY - I have to ...Cheri is a little digger but my neighbors had dogs break into their backyard by digging... so I'm always walking thru my backyard - it only takes a VERY SMALL HOLE for a yorkie to wiggle thru so this is a great reminder to those of us with fences - Thanks Shana ! |

| This post belongs here... Check your fences!! I assumed my fence was safe w/no areas to escape! Until Ted the shred moved in.. good neighbors the opposite.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Had to just write about my Neighbors! without them I would have lost Sami & Ted for ever! either from a car killing them to being stolen Ted had found away to get out of the yard! Now Sami never thought of looking to get out Ted Is a adoptee My kids say he's was just trying to cross the border lol. But he was taking sami with him I had come home from work and they both were gone! I was very lucky to have found them both this day! so I spent the weekend fixing any and all holes in the fence! So I thought? again I left for work and had worked over time! came home after dark! (I have a doggy door) both sami and ted were gone I cried and swore I was going to get rid of ted! (only a temporary feeling) after driving up and down my road now worring I pulled back into my driveway and there were two of my neighbors one from across the road and the other behind me! I don't quite live in a neighborhood with sidewalks, I live in a forest community both neighbors had one of each of my dogs, what a godsend to have the best neighborhood to watch out for one another! my one neighbor said ted was a runner and had to chase him down and the other neighbor said sami was too friendly came right to her! he would have been an easy mark! all the neighbors homes are far apart more like cabins, cottages, ranches, and I had not even met my neighbor behind me But because they bark they knew they were mine and never complained about their barking! well I just had to let you know that there are good neighbors too! and Im proud to be a part of neighborhood~ |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Funny that this is mentioned. Rebel got out twice yesterday. Finally found the hole he dug after the second time and fixed it...he wasn't too happy with me.

| The other day I went outside to get Cosmo and Astro and astro was gone, I was freaked out but luckily he was just playing with the cats at the neighbors house and he came when I called him. Him and Cosmo dug a hole under the gate and astro was the only one to fit through luckily. We fixed the whole and I am paraniod to let them out any more. Now the rest of the fence has wire dug underground.
